2000 miles from home? I believe the Stolpas were only a a few hundred miles from home (at the most) when they took an unplowed road and got lost in the mountains of northern California. They were driving in a borrowed truck, and Jim Stolpa was in the Army and stationed in California, I believe.
Don't be a Stolpa[edit]
I think it is interesting to note that a lot of NorCal folks, especially the mountain going ones, use the phrase "Don't be a Stolpa" during the winter as a warning to not make similar mistakes when traveling through the winter. I would not be surprised if the word Stolpa works its way into the local lexicon as a noun or adjective to describe someone who is foolhardy in the winter. DFS (talk) 20:57, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
