Map needed[edit]

The map currently in the article appears to show Southport in red, when in fact what is red-colored is the town of Fairfield, Connecticut. It led me to misunderstand, perhaps, the size of Southport, which relates to some discussion ongoing at Talk of List of RHPs in CT.

Anyhow, I am going to remove the current map, temporarily put in the somewhat larger map that is in the Fairfield article, and hereby call for someone to create a proper map showing the boundaries of Southport within Fairfield.... doncram (talk) 13:14, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Southport is not actually well-defined as one would hope. It existed briefly as a borough and I can probably use those boundaries (assuming I can quickly locate the Special Act creating the borough). We can also use the boundaries of the modern census tract, although that may or may not change with each census. --Polaron | Talk 13:19, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That map is great for showing approximate borders of the Southport Historic District (although not showing exclusion of commercial and industrial properties along Pequot Avenue within the area) and allowing comparison to former Borough area of Southport. doncram (talk) 06:48, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If I may jump in, that map looks great. Have you thought about trying to make one through OpenStreetMap? They release their maps under a Creative Commons license, so they can be displayed in the articles instead of having to link to them from External Links, as Doncram has done. I created the map on Historic Districts in Meridian, MS using that site, so it works pretty well. Just throwing out that suggestion! --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 07:07, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for jumping in! Dudemanfellabra refers to my adding Polaron's Google map as an external link in Southport Historic District] by this diff. It would be really great, yes, for the Southport HD article and/or the Southport, Connecticut one, to have an explicit image included showing the relevant boundaries. The book Southport: The Architectural Legacy of a Connecticut Village by J. Cigliano and R.G. Schwarz (Southport Conservancy, 1989) gives a detailed history of the village as it relates to the historic district and discusses specific houses, house plans and architectural styles. Orphaned references in Southport, Connecticut[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Southport, Connecticut's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Edit-a-thon(s) with Pequot Library[edit]

I supported an edit-a-thon at the Pequot Library on June 25, so wanted to give notice for COI reasons, especially for that section, as library members were participating.
