Merge proposal
[edit]Suggest merging this article into Southport Pier. The tramway is an inseperable part of the pier, so I don't see why it should be regarded as a distinct topic. PC78 (talk) 12:51, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
- Support – If the tramway is now closed, it no longer merits a 'standalone' article, and should be merged back in to the Southport Pier article. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 18:59, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- WP:NOTTEMPORARY
- We might merge this because it makes for a more readable article on the pier overall, but we should not do it simply because the tramway has (once again) closed. Andy Dingley (talk) 19:09, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- Technically, yes. Practically, an operational service will have more notability than a closed one. In this case, the notability is marginal to begin with, and will be even more marginal now that it's closed. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 19:14, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and completed this merge. Just to clarify Andy, this proposal wasn't a reaction to the closure of the tramway, I just see the tramway as being a feature of the pier and not a separate subject in itself. I think a combined article will better serve our readers. PC78 (talk) 18:34, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
