Actually, a lot of Chileans are of Spanish origin as well as there are Chileans of German or Palestinian origin. Please do not deleate this article. When you go to the Article 'Spaniards' you can see the proof on the Ethnic group box. John Paraskeva Rushton (talk) 13:39, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SPANISH Chileans[edit]

Spaniards are Europeans by definition.[edit]

Nobody is saying that Spanish Chilenas are not Europeans, as Spain is in Europe. Perhaps you could say that Spanish Chileans are mixed with other Eruropean nationalities instead, but most Chileans do have Spanish origins even though they also have English, Italian, French and German ones as well! Also, only a minority of Chileans have non-Spanish surnames. Only in certains sections of the population do Chileans have predominately Germanic or French surnames.

This article isn´t about Chileans of non-Spanish origin. The other origins of Chileans are to be discussed in the article about Chileans in general.

Also, the English is poor. So let´s correct the English but without claiming that Spanish Chileans don´t have other origins. Anyway, Chile wouldn´t be Chile without independence and the European immigration. Chilean culture is a mix of Spanish and other European cultures. Photos in infobox[edit]

What is the point of the photos if Chileans of Spanish origins form most of the population. Are these people descended from Spanish Civil War refugees and see they ethnic identity as Spanish, or are they any old Chilean celebrity that happens to have a Spanish surname. I think that someone put the pictures up their to prove their silly theory that the majority of Chileans are of sole European origin and that most Spanish Chileans are as white as they are. Wrong!!! He must live in an upper-class area where everyone looks like that. These people must have origins of other European nations. Why not put Spanish Chileans who look more like the majority, like Isabel Allende or Violeta Parra. Or are they too dark for you, and catches your little fairy-tale theory out. More Spanish Chileans have Amerindian than other European origin for your information. Chile wasn't populated by shipfuls of Europeans during the 19th century like Argentina or America was!!! This isn't about how white Chileans are in general. This is about SPANISH Chileans, i.e. only one of the many European groups that came to Chile in the 19th and 20th centuries. This article is about Spanish-born Chileans and their descendents who identify themselves as ethnically and culturally Spanish. This article should be about the Spanish Civil War refugees and their descendents, like the Winnipeg. If you want people to read about the fact that Chileans are descendent from European immigrants, let them read the article about Chilean demographics. Seriously, I think that Chileans, who might be a small minority, that might be descended from the original 16th century settlers cannot be classified as Spanish Chileans, as they do not identify with Spanish culture.
