This song was notated and arranged by Ella Sheppard, not Wallace Willis. The Fisk Jubilee Singers' arrangement which they recorded pre-dates Willis. Nina07011960 (talk) 21:34, 8 March 2019 (UTC) The song was sung by enslaved Africans on various plantations throughout the south. Willis certainly heard a version of the song and tried to claim credit, but his is not the composer.Nina07011960 (talk) 21:39, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
