Article name?[edit]
Especially with this conflict appearing to blur together into the fighting between Darfuri rebel groups and the government, with the declaration of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front, I'm no longer sure this is the right name for this article. Maybe it should be moved to Insurgency in Sudan (2011–)? -Kudzu1 (talk) 04:21, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Another possibility would be perhaps Sudan internal conflict (2011–) or Sudan–SRF conflict. -Kudzu1 (talk) 08:40, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Insurgency in Sudan 2011-present sounds good--Reader1987 (talk) 12:56, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

-
- then your name proposal Sudan internal conflict (2011–) fits good--Reader1987 (talk) 13:40, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

- we do need a South Sudan internal conflict (2010–) article, too--Reader1987 (talk) 13:41, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Area of operations?[edit]
If the conflict includes Darfuri rebels, aren't they fighting in Darfur?--Reader1987 (talk) 13:56, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Article name[edit]
Considering the large number of separate conflicts in Sudan (war in darfur, South Sudan political conflict, and tribal clashes in South Sudan, there must be a more specific title for this article. Sudan-SRF conflict is the most correct one.GreyShark (dibra) 20:23, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
- @Greyshark09: Since the SRF is an alliance between Darfuri rebels (SLA and JEM), mainly operating in Darfur, and SPLM-N, mainly operating in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, the title “Sudan-SRF conflict” seems to encompass both the War in Darfur, which has a separate page, and the armed conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, to which this article is dedicated. I therefore suggest renaming this article “Sudanese conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile”, as it was originally titled. Nykterinos (talk) 00:02, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Nykterinos: A very good point - i was delaying dealing with this dilemma for a long time, but now that you are into it as well, let's fix this issue. There are several conflicts in North Sudan, including Sudan-SPLM-N conflict, Darfur War, Sudanese nomadic conflicts. Some are interrelated, and some articles are very confused. We should decide which conflicts are which: "Darfur War" and "Sudanese conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile" are making a good distinction territorially, however do they still overlap with the Sudanese nomadic conflicts?GreyShark (dibra) 15:11, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Greyshark09:If we want to make the title less ambiguous but even longer than it already is, we could write, using UCDP terminology, “Sudanese state-based conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile”. Sudanese nomadic conflicts, even when taking place in the same territory, are non-state conflicts between rival tribes. I’ve also thought of the title “Sudan-SPLM-N conflict” (which was used in the past, too), but it was abandoned because SPLM-N almost immediatley allied with Darfuri rebels, which occasionally help it in South Kordofan and Blue Nile. Besides, we talk about “war in Darfur”, not “Sudan-SLA/JEM war”. However, “Sudan-SPLM-N conflict” still is the best alternative to “Sudanese (state-based) conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile”. The Sudan Tribune talks of South Kordofan & Blue Nile Conflict and links to Wiki article “Sudan-SPLM-N conflict”. UCDP lists just one Sudan-SRF conflict since November 2011, but then we should write a new article merging Darfur war and South Kordofan-Blue Nile war since that date. It seems to me that two articles are clearer, as the two conflicts are actually quite distinct even though the rebels are formally allied. Nykterinos (talk) 17:57, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
- In the end, I think “Sudanese conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile” is the best title. It doesn’t risk to be confused with nomadic conflicts in the same region, because these are not, after all, a single conflict, but multiple clashes involving different tribes. They take place in Darfur, too, but they don’t get confused with the main “War in Darfur” between government and rebels. Nykterinos (talk) 21:42, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
