My edit[edit]

De-regionalized the wording. I respect national varieties of English, but for at least the next few decades we must wait to see where its presumable internationalization leads us.

Prediction is an inherently blunt tool, and for now we can’t know whether English will develop into a more thoroly international role, or (as did Latin, ultimately) into a niche language for several technical fields (say, biology, law, and a theological/ceremonial patois; perhaps, en: will in futuris be an interlingual tool relevent only to content that profits from technical precision). ‘Twere just, if it should take over Latin’s role as a standard for lack non-ambiguity, and, perhaps, for catholicity (in a non-theological sense).
