Is the golden point in force in the SL? Someone might to add it in, if it is. -- Paul 11:51, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Not for the regular rounds. I'm not sure about play-offs though, but I think they just use normal extra time. Grinner 14:54, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)

Link[edit]

Please add www.rugbyleaguetoday.co.uk as another link on Super League (EUROPE) as it is the a great rugby league community website on the internet. Thankyou Webmaster. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rugbyleaguetoday (talkcontribs) 01:04, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template[edit]

The template should include St Helens RFC - instead of linking to St Helens disambiguation page. Please can someone change this? I can't work out how to do it myself. CarolGray 18:40, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay, I've found how to fix it myself. CarolGray 18:46, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Season Summaries[edit]

Since the 2006 and 2007 seasons have their own articles, shall we merge the content about them on this article into those, and just keep this one about the Super League organisation/competition itself?--Jeff79 18:45, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like a good suggestion.GordyB 18:54, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas for improvment[edit]

I think to expand this article we should include some mention or details of the following:

  • Televisation of matches
  • The video games based on Super League
  • The actual, physical trophy that is won

Just some ideas.--Jeff79 (talk) 09:35, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It would be good if somebody could create a map with team locations like they have for the NRL —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.100.151.199 (talk) 04:46, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have put up a map I designed earlier Its very simple but effective I feel. mjelski
I like the map but it is too wide for the screen, the French section needs its own line.GordyB (talk) 17:01, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Having no idea of English geography I found the map very useful. If you get time, could you also do a map for the National Leagues site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.102.161.75 (talk) 23:36, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the table for winners, runners up etc, would it make more sense to take out the (1st) as they are already covered by the league winner section??

No, the winner of the league isn't necessarily the winner of the grand final.GordyB (talk) 17:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • If I knew how to add a column to this table I would do this myself. Thought it might be useful to have a column with the ground capacity for each of the stadia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.102.161.75 (talk) 05:40, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of suggestions:

  • Perhaps the History section should be split off into a new History of Super League article, with a summaries of major events and a link to the new article left behind. What's there now contains good detail of the beginnings of Super League but could benefit from further information of the 13 years since then.
  • The Teams that have played in Super League section (I think) might be better off taken out of this main article. The list could be made into its own article or perhaps it could be a section on the History of Super League page?

Article name[edit]

If Super League directs you to this article (and rightly so), why do we still have the "(Europe)" in its name? Was making this article the primary topic for Super League discussed and voted on? Or is someone likely to come along and try to change it to the disambiguation page?--Jeff79 (talk) 07:11, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is the most commonly thought of meaning of the term. In Australia and New Zealand it is often described as the English Super League or British Super League due to the Super League War down under around a decade ago. The product is known as Super League with often the title sponsor Engage in front of it. I guess with teams from Wales and France it is a European Super League, but officially Super League is the name. Maybe a move to that with a link to the disambiguation page at the top.Londo06 09:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't know why this article is named Super League (Europe) when Super League directs to it anyway. The "(Europe)" disambiguator is not needed right? There's a link to Super League (disambiguation) at the top. Has this not been discussed already elsewhere? Surely it has.--Jeff79 (talk) 10:31, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

finally. Thank you.--Jeff79 (talk) 16:45, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Position of Crusaders RLFC on map[edit]

Would it be possible to correct the geographic location of Crusaders Rugby League club who are still incorrectly shown on the maps in the Super League and Super League XV articles as based in Bridgend as opposed to Wrexham where they are now based (although of course the present map can be retained for posterity in the Super League XIV article)?Wrh1973 (talk) 18:58, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Super League Rivalries[edit]

There are obviously club rivalries within the Super League that exist and that information is ideally part of the 'history' of the competition. To date the present list has been deleted twice rather than having a discussion. Can anyone with sources/links please reference those club rivalries rather than just deleting all the information outright. (Mattdocbrown (talk) 06:42, 13 January 2011 (UTC))[reply]

As it stands some of what is listed wouldn't really be considered rivalries, at least not of much historical significance (i.e. Castleford vs Wigan, Crusaders vs Widnes). Perhaps it would be better to list the current historical 'derby' matches in Super League, as there are bound to be some sources to be found for those games. The major derby games; Bradford-Leeds, Castleford-Wakefield, the Hull derby, and St Helens vs Wigan. Not sure about including Warrington vs Widnes as the latter aren't currently a Super League club, and whilst they were at one point it could become misleading. I would suggest 'Derbies' is better than 'Rivalries' as rivalries could include a huge number of games, some that aren't really significant, and rivalries can sometimes be created or lose significance within the space of a few seasons. --EagleEyePie (talk) 02:24, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's fair enough. I did create the original list after I questioned fans on a few different Rugby League webpages (as I had already created a similar one for the NRL). I've only been watching Super League for the last 2 years so I don't know enough about the long term club histories, but I'd rather not have the entire list deleted just because a few are incorrect. Before posting the list, I did repost it back to those webpages and had no complaints there at all. It's very important that there's a record of these derbies/rivalries on Wikipedia - as I struggled to find a comprehensive list anywhere else on the internet. If people could find sources it would be appreciated.(Mattdocbrown (talk) 07:46, 14 January 2011 (UTC))[reply]
Quick edit to the rivalries section. The following have been removed:
Salford vs Swinton – Swinton have never been a Super League club so it isn’t a Super League rivalry.
Castleford vs Wigan – No real rivalry exists. There was some animosity around half a decade ago but Cas vs Wigan is no more a rivalry than any other game now and carries no extra importance.
Leigh Centurions rivalries – Leigh are no longer a Super League team which doesn't really fit a 'Super League rivalry' now that Super League has no promotion and relegation. A derby game with Wigan exists but pre-dates Super League by decades.
The following have been added:
Leeds vs Wigan – Rivalry exists and has been heightened over recent years by various on field incidents, Challenge Cup semi final fixture and several playoff fixtures.
Huddersfield vs Warrington – Rivalry began during Warrington’s successful Challenge Cup run, continued in 2010 playoffs and 2011 season.
Huddersfield vs Wigan – Games between the two sides have often involved some heated incidents, particularly in the 2010 season but incidents in previous years too. (EagleEyePie (talk) 22:37, 15 August 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Development of Super League[edit]

Interesting document I came across on me travels: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm199900/cmselect/cmcumeds/99/99ap06.htm I think sections from this would be good to incorporate into the history of prehistory of the development of Super League. Reasons why the League decided to make these radcial changes seem very important and I can't see them mentioned.

On a similar subject, in my opinion the opening statement of the History section needs to be changed. It is obviously someone's original research and opinion, and uses no sources to back it up. It may be fair to say those things but it needs proof to back it up, or it needs changing. I looked and those statements have been there since the formation of this page with no evidence. I'm no fan of Murdoch but it reads with a very biased tone of voice. I believe looking at the Super League war page may be a good starting point, although this is obviously more about Australia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaleeyed (talkcontribs) 16:33, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Club Colors[edit]

The chart with the team names, colors, stadia etc. has the Broncos' unchanged from the Quins'. I am not sure how to, but the little box should probably be sky and black now. 119.149.12.118 (talk) 13:08, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nicknames[edit]

When the super league started, many of the clubs adopted nicknames into their official names e.g. Leeds Rinos, Halifax Blue Sox. Is it known why this happened? and if to do with the super league, can it be included in the article. Thankyou. Op47 (talk) 19:28, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Highest Attendance[edit]

For the highest attendance part of the infobox on the individual seasons page, I think we should exclude the Grand Final / Magic Weekend as they are special cases and will always attract higher attendances that the regular season matchs.

How long before the soccerinas arrive en masse to claim this page should be theirs?

Coaches to have coached at least 200 Super League games[edit]

Is there any reason why this is at 200? Is there a special prize for this amount of games managed? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:08, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we get an up to date version of the Super League logo for the info box. Current one is the old logo Northern Wonder (talk) 09:05, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rant: Super League I and II[edit]

St Helens and Bradford were declared champions as they were league leaders in the absence of a Grand Final. THEY WERE STILL LEAGUE LEADERS!!! Don't removed this information from the "champions table" as it is correct and factaul. Further, don't replace it with "N/A". "N/A" means not applicable, the league leader for Super League I and II is applicable as there was a league. "N/A" is used correctly in the score column as there was no Grand Final for there to be a score for, which is all explained in the note. Having "N/A" in the league leaders column is misleading, false, contradicts the note in the score column about how the champions were determined for the first two season, and prevents the display of the league leaders of those two seasons. Mn1548 (talk) 15:35, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I’d argue that the League Leaders column is irrelevant for SL I and II as the first past the post system meant the team finishing top were Champions. The league leaders column is only relevant when a Grand Final was played Northern Wonder (talk) 20:47, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thing is that teams finishing first in SL I and II were Champions AS WELL AS League Leaders. I'd understand it if we extended the "N/A" to 2002, due to the fact the shield wasn't awarded until 2003, but if we are including seasons prior to this it should go all the way back to 1996. At the end of the day the teams that were achieved this in season I and II ACHIEVED BOTH, they just happened to be the same thing at the time. Regarding relevance, league leaders in seasons I and II are as relevant as in all seasons until 2002 as neither of those teams got trophies. And Regardless of all this, saying a league leader is not applicable for I and II implies there was not a league to be a leader of, which is factually incorrect. Mn1548 (talk) 19:09, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The list should be those awarded the specific trophy only. Anything else is WP:OR. Same applies to League Leaders' Shield. Koncorde (talk) 10:03, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
