Where is the Old Smith Village in Tenafly (from what street to what street) and what is the history of it?

Who is Sofie Zamchick? I was curious so I went to her YouTube page. Her most popular video has 12,500 views and is 4 years old. She seems nice, but it doesn't seem appropriate to include her in the same list as Elizabeth Cady Stanton or even Mira Sorvino. Did Sofie's publicist edit this page? "Alansohn" I see that you reverted my edit in the Notable category. I had removed Ms. Zamchick from the list of Notable people because, though I'm sure she is a very nice and talented lady, she is not notable. Notability has nothing to do with just how notable a person is compared to some other person. Sofie Zamchick has a Wikipedia article. Her article meets the Wikipedia notability standard. I respectfully disagree. I believe that notability is, by definition, a quality of degree, and is only important if it can distinguish between people who are amongst a relative few people (Zamchick), and people who are notable to most people (Elizabeth Cady Stanton). Ms. Zamchick is not notable by any reasonable definition, and the fact that she has a Wikipedia page about her does not make her notable, it just means that some rando out there made a wikipedia page. Name origin & edits[edit]

I've kept in the name origin story, but with a cite needed. I heard "ten swamps" as a kid, but that doesn't seem be correct Dutch either. There was a book by Virginia Mosely years ago, as I recall, but I don't have a copy.

Also, on the bits I edited out: there's a list of all the neighboring towns at the bottom, so it doesn't seem necessary to have in the body. --Diogenes00 06:59, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I, as a kid, also heard "ten swamps." More precisely, I heard that the name was changed from "Tenaflee" (spelling?) to "Tenafly," because the former meant ten swamps, while the latter meant ten oaks and would attract more colonists.Birdman722 21:00, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My family made their home in Tenafly starting in 1960, and this is the first I've heard of the "Tiene Vly" name theory. I was always told that the name origin was simply lost to history (like my wife's home town of Schroon Lake, New York, but that's another story). Ban writer[edit]

I'm referring to the last sentence of the 2000 Census heading: "Among residents, 64.0% spoke only English, while 8.7% Korean, 5.0% Spanish, 4.5% Chinese or Mandarin and 3.1% Hebrew.[30]" Tenafly is a diverse community, but most residents are at least bi-lingual. I would expect that while 64 percent might speak only English, the other numbers express either birth language or main language. Since I don't know the answer, I'm not changing the text. But the sentence is wrong as written. While it applies to the 2000 census, I think the 2010 census has similar numbers, or possibly even a lower percentage of English-only speakers. After re-reading the article and my above comment, I probably mis-interpreted the numbers. It really says that 36 percent of residents don't speak English or are bi-ingual. Probably right, but I dovt that half of the 36 percent speak no English.
