The academy is.. and AIM[edit]

the academy is.. and other fbr members have their own public AIM accounts, which they use to talk to fans in the chatroom 'taitalk'. It originated last april and was kept strictly secret to a few people, the band giving out details of the chat to a few dedicated fans at shows. Slowly the word has spread, and the band come online whenever they have spare time to talk to these fans, sometimes even while on tour.

To the person above[edit]

Indie Rock does not exist Indie = Independent Record Label

who's this Above me cause I agree w/u +[edit]

What's funny is that "Emo" is not a genre, it's just a derogatory term, and people are too stupid to talk about music without screaming "I hate Emos". As far as I'm concerned, I had heard that MCR were the most "Emo" band ever, and TAI are too far from that to be "Emo". Genres suck anyway. I'd call them "Power Pop", if I had to.. How is emo a derogatory term? and y do u hate emo people so much? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iandrummer204 (talkcontribs) 02:31, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

some one has a proble above me[edit]

indie rock does exist. think about it, modest mouse isnt on an indie record label and theyre what most consider indie rock. so "STFU, GTFO, FOAD & DIAF. 70.125.40.113 22:18, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They Are Mostly Indie, You're Mistaken[edit]

The Acadmey Is technically Rock / Indie / Alternative, though some people classify it as emo music as well. They are not really emo though. If you actually listen to the lyrics of most of their songs, the perspective of the writier is not depressed, angry, or especially 'emoish'. So technically you can't say The Academy Is... is emo.

If I had to label them I'd agree with All Music Guide. Pop-punk more then anthing. FinalWish 21:56, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Academy is is not indie rock they're are indie i guess cause FBR is an independent label but indie rock has certain things which make it a genre. I think ppl should just say pop punk/rock —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.186.64.155 (talk) 00:18, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Myspace says emo[edit]

On their myspace they says indie/alternative/EMO. So they are emo if they say they are emo!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.4.65.199 (talk) 16:41, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Band Picture[edit]

Someone recently has been changing the band pics to unrelated subjects, such as this picture and the picture of the Used. I only speak, I cannot do, so someone please fix the picture.

Done. --HarryCane 20:29, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

William Beckett merger[edit]

Why is the article "William Beckett" tagged and suggested to be merged into this one? Most band articles feature separate articles for the individual members... - Sestet 01:51, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree whole-heartedly -EowynMorgan 13:23, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Links?[edit]

Why are there so many links? The only links there should be are the official website, purevolume, myspace, and camptai. There should be no lyrics link, no UK interview link (wtf?), and no William Beckett link. That belongs on his own Wiki page. --Junesong 00:51, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey guys how about linking to The Academy Is A.D.D. bio on MTV.com? Its exclusive content and Its a pretty cool piece on the band. Check it out and see if you want to add it to the external link page. The URL is http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=1557153&vid=143439--Chasingemy 20:16, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Songwriting credit?[edit]

Quoted from this page: "Contrary to popular belief and what has been said in the press, a good portion of the music written on [Almost Here] has actually been done by LaTrace ..." (Needing source)

Quoted from the William Beckett page: "William along with bandmate Mike Carden wrote all of the songs in their new album, 'Almost Here'."

Clearly a conflict. The information on this page, going "contrary to popular belief and press" definitely needs a source. Then the information on these two pages should be consolidated. --S.Reemas, August 11th

In the booklet for Santi, it only credits William as the person that wrote the lyrics. AmieUrie 11:33, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to songwriting credit[edit]

That's a tough one, I can't find any official sources on that, but I made that change on the basis that I actually am from Barrington, Illinois and I actually went to high school with Adam, AJ, and Bill and yeah I actually knew the guys.. I don't really wanna say who I am exactly because I don't want to start some sort of lame controversy.. but believe me when I say that I've actually as far as heard a lot of the material when it was only on a little digital recording device, if you really have to have some further inquiry try emailing Brian Zieske at the gallery of carpet recording studio where The Academy recorded their first EP at info@galleryofcarpet.com but I can't promise you'll get a good answer... if you really feel up to it you can also ask Johnny Minardi at his myspace http://www.myspace.com/johnnyminardi he used to work at a local record store around here called record breakers http://www.recordbreakers.net he also owned the first record company the academy was on which was called little leauge records, then LLR, but is now defunct and Minardi works for Fueled By Ramen so I pretty much doubt that he will back up what I say... oh yeah if you look through the pictures at www.recordbreakers.net interact section you'll see a few pictures of a younger Bill Beckett with short hair. It is up to you whether you want to believe me or not but the truth remains that AJ LaTres did write most of the guitar parts on almost here and I'm a firm believer that credit should be given where it is due.

Thomas Conrad's name[edit]

I don't understand why people continuously change his name to Tom Conrad when it's Thomas Conrad. You can leave it, you know? His name is Thomas Conrad, and that's what he sometimes goes by. It makes no difference. Exposedmemories 19:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First headlining tour[edit]

Why does this article say that they embarked on their first ever headlining tour in spring 2006 with hellogoodbye and Panic! at the Disco? What about their summer 2005 headlining tour, with supporting bands Plain White T's, Days Away, and June.

Sorry, forgot to sign this edit. chowski 05:36, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New album[edit]

The new album is called "Chop Chop," not "Santi." Senita Fetibegovic 08:50, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some have suggested that the new album is indeed called "Santi" as posted on AbsolutePunk.net[1] and hinted by the band's close friend, Johnny Minardi, on the official LiveJournal community.[2] Some believe that the first single will be called "Santi" as opposed to that being the title of the album. Exposedmemories 16:23, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I moved the article from Chop Chop (album) to Santi, possibly a little too prematurely. Normally I'd say we should go with the most recent "official" statement (being the in-studio interview the band did), but in this instance, I think we should lay off any further article moving until the title is verified by either the band or the label (along with maybe a supplied album cover). It would be stupid to move it now, only to move it back to Santi, once the album is titled. --HarryCane 22:48, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The New Single[edit]

It seems as though the new single is prematurely announced here. It has been hinted on the LiveJournal community by JM and other confidants of the band members that the new single will actually be the song "Everything We Had". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.91.216.69 (talk) 19:41, August 23, 2007 (UTC)

The exact date The Academy Is... formed[edit]

can someone who's been a member long enough add it

this is from Adam's FoE profile "Ask Sisky Pt. 2 Responses"

Q: What did you think as you met Mike Carden for the first time in your life? Were you scared?
A: The first time I met Mike Carden was March 4th, 2003 (my brothers 18th Birthday) the day that we formed The Academy Is... I wouldn't say that I was scared of Mike, but I was definitely intimidated. I had been a fan of Mikes previous band, Jodie, and I knew that Mike was probably a lot smarter than me. I had never played in a band that didn't suck before so I was pretty nervous. I didn't know how to tune my bass so I had to hand it to Mike to do it. I felt really dumb, but Mike was cool. I have learned a lot from my band mates over the years.

new single[edit]

influences/Winter Passing/His Girl Friday[edit]

I'm not sure some of those influences are true some just don't sound right maybe need reference if it's mtv that they are getting those from at the top of the page it says Related Artists not influences, the one's I know the source's for are Smashing Pumpkins from TAI TV Episode 15 Season 2 and The Clash from this interview

can a page for Winter Passing be created I posted here with plenty of references that contained stuff that could fill it but no one seems to check it judging by the massive amount of non-articled songs

His Girl Friday is only a guess of the next single someone heard it on Sirius and posted on the official The Academy Is... Livejournal Community as a theory the said they heard the song and thought it might be not that they said it was going to be Musicobsessed6 (talk) 17:53, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

my removal about the new material being a future album[edit]

I do not believe this is relevant yet seeing as how they are not for certain working on a new album, all that is known is they are working on new songs and they aren't doing it in just one place like most likely would be the case in a full album someone mentioned on their livejournal community that they thought they were just demoing right now. So I do not think it is relevant to mention it in the article right now and william has been mentioning writing new songs since the beginning of this year. UK Street Team[edit]

There is a twitter called @TheAcademyIsUK which is there for all UK fans to hear news about The Academy Is... and I have tried to add it onto the page but it was removed because it did not comply with guidelines. I feel that it should be on the page for any UK fans who may want to follow. They also have a myspace, website and facebook group and fan page, but the Twitter is what is used mostly and is what I think should be linked. Dissum 02:50, 21 January 2010

According to WP:ELNO:

Except for a link to an official page of the article's subject, one should avoid:

  1. Links to social networking sites (such as MySpace and Facebook), chat or discussion forums/groups (such as Yahoo! Groups), Twitter feeds, USENET newsgroups or e-mail lists.
  2. Links to blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority. (This exception is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for biographies.)
I think that the Twitter feed belongs to both groups above, and so it shouldn't be included among the external links. Svick (talk) 08:16, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's fair enough then. I've added a link to the actual website now, if that's ok. Dissum 18:04, 22 January 2010
