Untitled[edit]

I think it's important we only cover the Disney Afternoon in the timeline, in the article it states that it lasted only 8 seasons but in the timeline you clearly use Disney's One Saturday Morning for the last few seasons. If no one objects to this I'm going to chop it down so the timeline only features shows that were part of The Disney Afternoon.-Deathawk 23:36, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and I'm removing the later material, putting it here. It probably best belongs in other articles, like that for Disney's One Saturday Morning. It is being placed here in case someone wants to move it there later. Skybunny 16:37, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More recently, the Disney Afternoon was altered and aired on the Disney Channel. The tagline was "Animate afternoons your way!".

What Channels?[edit]

This article doesn't seem to very well specify exactly what channels The Disney Afternoon aired on. I remember watching on either ABC or CBS, but was it on both? This was around 1991 and I didn't have the Disney Channel, so I'm sure that wasn't it. I had a similar problem with the TailSpin article in that it vaguely explained the channels it aired on. Any improvements on this would be appreciated. Cale 03:18, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Disney Afternoon and the shows that were a part of it were syndicated, meaning they weren't bought by networks, they were bought by individual affiliates. So it may have aired on ABC in one city and on NBC in another, and it could move around from station to station or disappear depending on which affiliate(s) wanted it. (In my own city the WB aired it and before that Fox, and it may have even been on other stations before that.) Is this something that should be explained in the main article?--Calluna (talk) 23:31, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Las Vegas, NV, has strange airtimes for Disney Afternoon. KVVU aired the shows, but not in the Afternoon, but in the morning. 7 AM was Rescue Rangers, 730 was Alvin and the Chipmunks, 8 AM was ???, and 830 was either TaleSpin or DuckTales, depending on the gravitational pull of Pluto's moon.
In the afternoon, TaleSpin was the 3:30 show, but that's it. Then DA moved to KRLR and was the Disney Afternoon as we know it. Then, when KRLR became KUPN, they broke it up again, with DuckTales on at 5 AM, and the others spread around. Then it just disappeared. Apple8800 (talk) 05:10, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My memory just cleared up:
  • 3:00 - Gummi Bears
  • 3:30 - TaleSpin
  • 4:00 - ???
  • 4:30 - Batman

Disney Adventures?[edit]

Well, I've been searching around online and I can't find any evidence to back up my claim, but in Australia during the 90s, directly after "Saturday Disney" on Channel 7, a show would start called "Disney Adventures" which fits the description of The Disney Afternoon. The Title Sequence featured various Disney characters of the time, and had the same logo as the Disney Adventures magazine.

Anyone know anything about this? Was "Disney Adventures" just a rename of TDA in Australia? I'd see that as likely, as I think the show started around 11AM, and therefore wouldn't have been "After Noon" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.214.218.51 (talk) 22:35, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Music[edit]

Who wrote and sang the theme? Also is anybody aware that soundtrack was published in 1990? Sarujo (talk) 07:18, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gladstone/Disney/Marvel/Gemstone/Boom! and Disney Adventures[edit]

Considering that there are always comicbooks of the Disney Afternoon made, why doesn't this article list, acknowledge, and inform as such?

Boom! Kids is currently making DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, and Darkwing Duck. Marvel published The Disney AFternoon for quite a while, and Disney Adventures, from the issues I read (but donated) from the early part of the digest's genesis always had Disney Afternoon comics as well. The Disney Afternoon is NOT coming back in 2012[edit]

I don't know where this rumor started but it's not happening i've heard nothing outside of YouTube (witch IS unreliabale may i add) so long story short IT'S NOT HAPPENING

History
Some of the early cartoon series on The Disney Afternoon came from already in-circulation cartoons, such as Adventures of the Gummi Bears, which aired on NBC from 1985 to 1988 and then moved to ABC in 1989. DuckTales premiered in 1987 as Disney was focused on incorporating animated series into its portfolio in the era of cartoons; it was Disney's only syndicated cartoon series until accompanied in 1989 by Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers. These two shows had been packaged together as an hour-long cartoon block from 1989 to 1990, until both shows were incorporated into The Disney Afternoon in September 1990.

Both DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers were syndicated and packaged at first through their original television affiliates, most of which evolved from independents to Fox affiliates with successful children's lineups. However, due to disputes between Disney and Fox later on, both shows were pulled from many Fox affiliates by Disney and landed on other stations in the same markets that were still independents by the time The Disney Afternoon came to play. Other Fox affiliates simply passed it down to their independent competitors by choice due to shorter time frames for local programming, mainly with the debut of The Disney Afternoon's main competitor Fox Kids and more stations premiering local morning news programs. However, some Fox affiliates aired The Disney Afternoon during the first two years of their existence before they either passed it down to their independent competitors or packaged the shows individually. This is mainly due to Fox Kids expanding their afternoon lineup to two hours.

Some of The Disney Afternoon's later additions were inspired by shorter cartoon segments in the short-lived series Raw Toonage, which appeared on the CBS network in the fall of 1992. For example, the show's "Marsupilami" segment was spun off into the series Marsupilami, which in turn spawned The Shnookums and Meat Funny Cartoon Show, which aired on the block. Likewise, the Raw Toonage segment "He's Bonkers!" was spun off into the series Bonkers, which aired on the block.

Beginning with the 1994 season, Marvel Comics (which would eventually be acquired by Disney) began publishing a comic book series based on the programs featured on the block, as part of their line of comics based on modern Disney properties (the classic properties were licensed to Gladstone Publishing). The series mainly consisted of stories based on Darkwing Duck, with occasional stories featuring Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and TaleSpin. It ended at 10 issues, but stories based on the block's shows continued in Marvel's Disney Comic Hits! and in the children's magazine Disney Adventures.

Section "Approximate lineup by seasons" Needs work[edit]

The table format there is outdated (and, let's face it, visually ugly). That old table format was discontinued for a reason (it was always an eye sore, even back when it was current for new tables). Anyway, we switched to the cool-grey-colored tables we use now here on Wikipedia quite a while ago. Please. Let's finally update that table in this Article. Disney-Kellogg Alliance[edit]

Electricburst1996, please read the article and check the changes made, before you go an make an unneeded reversal. It is the internal/industry name as the article was changed to read "the unbranded Disney-Kellogg Alliance"

It partly explains why the block goes unbranded in the last two years and is used by "Variety", Daily News and the Animated World Magazine. Second, notable doesn't apply to content with in the article, reliable source is. Spshu (talk) 20:50, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I want a general consensus before you restore it. I want to see what everyone else has to say. ElectricBurst(Electron firings)(Zaps) 20:52, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • For restoring Disney-Kellogg Alliance
While you wait for other comments, please read WP:NNC: Notability guidelines do not apply to content within an article. (With how low other rate notability on WP with three different sources including Variety, if notability was applied I don't see how it could not meet WP standards.) I don't see how this is WP:UNDUE as it is it name, it just wasn't branded that on the block and was general referred to as "The Disney Afternoon". As I am not asking to move the article as it was the common name or even branded name. Spshu (talk) 21:09, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
RfC: Disney-Kellogg Alliance: Should the name, "Disney-Kellogg Alliance", the block's later name when Disney Afternoon went with out branding during its last two years of syndication, be indicated in the article? --Spshu (talk) 23:30, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Since no one responded to the RfC, how about we apply at Wikipedia:Third opinion? Spshu (talk) 14:44, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

About your Third Opinion request: Your request for a Third Opinion has been removed (i.e. declined). Like all other moderated content dispute resolution venues at Wikipedia, 3O requires thorough recent talk page discussion before seeking assistance. The discussion here has been neither thorough nor recent. Wikipedia is built around a model of collaborative editing which means that editors who disagree should attempt to work together to reach a solution rather than merely disagreeing and calling out for help. Once that has been attempted — and discussion through edit comments is not sufficient — you may then seek help through dispute resolution if you cannot come to an agreement. That is nice, TransporterMan, but outside opinion is what the roadblocking editor requested, so that doesn't move anything forward. I cannot force him to state his objects. So in order to get this editor back here, I have to go towards a 3RR violation. Spshu (talk) 16:06, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request for discussion[edit]

You need to discussion your reason for not allowing "Disney-Kellogg Alliance" into the article. It is sourced via reliable sources thus should be included. Spshu (talk) 19:47, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should not be included in the infobox because it's an unofficial name. ElectricBurst(Electron firings)(Zaps) 19:51, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It had no branded name during this period. Disney-Kellogg Alliance (DKA) was its name that it was marketed with and referred to in the industry. I assume it was the block's official name based on its use, just they did not want to use it for the block branding and could not come up with another name for it. Should it then be blank instead? Its status as its official name or not isn't a criteria for it to be listed in the article or infobox. WP:COMMONNAME is the standard for name articles. Spshu (talk) 22:46, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But why use it in the infobox? ElectricBurst(Electron firings)(Zaps) 23:19, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is its name just like ABC, Inc. is Disney-ABC TV Group's official name but not the name they used. Spshu (talk) 18:31, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This discussion has been referred to WikiProject Television out of a need to hash it out in a larger forum. ElectricBurst(Electron firings)(Zaps) 23:27, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I restored it, partially, but with a bit more information on why it was suddenly involving Kellogg's. ViperSnake151  Talk  20:23, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Closure of the block[edit]

Who says that The Disney Afternoon blocked ended on August 29, 1997? None of the shows had an episode as far as I know aired on that day. Mighty Ducks ended on January 17 and the other shows had episodes airing on different days of the week. All other shows ended before 1997. Evope 21:21, 11 October 2019‎

It did not as it was extend as an unbranded block under the working/internal title of Disney-Kellogg Alliance. Adding this information screeched to a halt due to a single editor that would not discuss the issue except to object and wanting other editors to comment. See above (Talk:The_Disney_Afternoon#Disney-Kellogg_Alliance). Spshu (talk) 14:25, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
