Timeline[edit]

The note in this article that the story takes place before the original series is incorrect. Falcom's website has a timeline posted here that clearly shows it taking place concurrently with Zero and Ao no Kiseki. The article used as reference is incorrect due to the author failing to translate the interview correctly, as they didn't know the 'war' that was mentioned in correct context. I've tried to make edits with it, but I'm really clumsy with wikicode and am finding myself to be unsuccessful to retain the formatting in making the change. Does anyone know how to change the title of the article? Because the Siliconera translation is terrible, and well, wrong. Also, It would be great if we can fill the plot summary up without spoiling anything. The character section too, thought I'm pretty much planning on ripping off and character notes for this one.

Edit: How does this work. :v

I agree with the concept of moving it as well, but my account doesn't have the allowances to move the page. :( I can give some more additional information based on this, however... Tom from XSEED has outright said the following: "(the game Siliconera has dubbed "Trails in the Flash," which is a name we would never, ever use)." Source: http://forum.marvelous-usa.com/index.php?showtopic=27458&#entry845369

It's kind of pointless to have this article under a title that was terribly translated by a gaming news blog, especially when one of the publishers has said that they would never use the title. Until the time that a publisher finally releases an official title, as Falcom has yet to do so themselves, then it should be posted in its Japanese title to prevent any form of confusion, as there ARE many people out there that seem to believe that 'Trails in the Flash' is official in its horribly translated glory. Omgfloofy (talk) 13:36, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Or not. The site was still showing the old article filename before. Now it seems to be correct anyway. Nevermind then! Omgfloofy (talk) 13:43, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

While on the topic of Siliconera- Most of their articles on this game are rubbish (the thing about it being a prequel is from them, the horrible mistranslated name that even XSeed says is rubbish is from them). I think it'd be better to not use them as a source on anything related to this game, as they have proven time and again to not be a reliable one. Anyway I've removed all instances of them being used as a source on the article. Up until I removed it, one of the articles being cited as a source was the one declaring Sen to be a prequel! (This: www.siliconera.com/2012/12/26/new-legend-of-heroes-game-shows-the-great-war-referenced-in-trails-in-the-sky/) So yeah, this is beyond ridiculous. This has left some statements without sources, but if necessary please use sources that AREN'T Siliconera. 111.97.175.172 (talk) 00:46, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

Hi can you guys add The Legend of Heroes and connect it to Trails of Cold Steel? Because it seems that this was left out and only Trails of Cold Steel was added. (talk) 06:42, June 6 2015 (UTC)

Most sources have just been calling it by Trails of Cold Steel, including Xseed. We're supposed to go by WP:COMMONNAME... Sergecross73 msg me 14:08, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In XSEED's E3 press release, the game is listed as The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. [1] --MK (talk) 16:32, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, yeah, you're right. Maybe the other websites were just shortening it down then. I'll change it unless someone else objects shortly. Sergecross73 msg me 16:38, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Characters[edit]

There are now six games in the series, with most characters appearing in multiple ones. Wouldn't it be a better idea to have a separate page for all the characters instead of individual sections on each article? 175.134.44.29 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:43, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Separate characters page[edit]

Usually, that would be a good idea. Then again, there are very few recurring 'main' characters. All of the side characters that appear in multiple games usually play different roles under different circumstances (Lector doesn't even become all that relevant until Ao, Kirika isn't a member of the guild in Ao anymore, etc). Not to mention the English translation haven't gotten that far yet (and as much as I hate to say it, it probably never will).

Oh yeah, I'm not gonna force my opinion on anybody, but I still think it's a good idea to avoid spoilers. Especially like the huge one that you put in.174.0.39.133 (talk) 04:24, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

--This is actually how the Japanese wiki has it setup. I think it's larger than the articles for the individual games, even. Omgfloofy (talk) 13:30, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I find it very unlikely that someone, at this point, could make a character's page about this game's characters and have it meet the WP:GNG - the characters themselves don't get much in the way of significant, third party coverage, at least not in English sources. Also, per WP:SPOILER, they are allowed, but if you're able to get by without mentioning them, or being a little subtle about it, then that's fine too. "Excessive detail" and "far too much emphasis on story"[edit]

Sergecross73 is citing WP:PLOTSUM as justification behind removing large amounts of information, which I am finding puzzling due to the following wording there: "concise summary of the plot" " description should be thorough enough for the reader to get a sense of what happens". This is clearly not the case in his versions of the article. I admit that my versions may not be entirely well-written, but they do at the very least fulfill these conditions; Should we not be working on improving the text then, instead of just removing it entirely with no valid reasoning? (Considering how WP:PLOTSUM is clearly stating the exact opposite of that) 111.97.175.172 (talk) 18:23, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

See the details listed below. Looks like we both created a section at the same time. Sergecross73 msg me 18:31, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Excessive plot/story/in-universe details[edit]

IPs keep re-adding content in edits like this. It is not appropriate for Wikipedia on multiple levels.

  • Please read WP:PLOTSUM, MOS:PLOT, and WP:INU. In short, this is not a Wikia or Gamefaqs where giant plot summaries are written, this is an encyclopedia, and should be written like one. As such, it's not supposed to be a huge amount of information on plot/story/in-universe details. It's supposed to be mostly an overview of the product in an out-of-universe manner.
  • There also shouldn't be these giant lists of characters. Just an outline of a few of the main characters, primarily the playable ones.
  • Details like age and gender do not need to be bulleted in a list-like format. Gender is almost always identified naturally in the opening sentences (":Alisa is the daughter of the Reinford family...") and individual age is largely trivial - the article already does (or can) make it clear that they're largely high school age. If age really is of note, then it too can be worked into sentences. ("Alisa is the 16 yr old daughter"...)
  • The content should be written using the name's English name per WP:USEENGLISH.

If you need an example of how to better balance these aspects, please look at story-heavy and peer-reviewed good article such as Tales of Graces. Yes, I know this article is in rough shape, and needs improvement, but these recent edits are taking it in the wrong direction. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 18:31, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Once again: WP:PLOTSUM clearly states: "concise summary of the plot" " description should be thorough enough for the reader to get a sense of what happens". I'm sorry, but your edits seem to me to be clearly failing to fulfill these conditions, as the plot summaries in them aren't even that- They're abstract descriptions that look like they belong more on the back of a game box! I agree that the article is in bad shape, but how on earth is just removing content instead of trying to fix it the way to improve it? Anyway, I concede that the character stuff was getting cluttered so left it as it is, only re-adding the plot sections in my last edit. 111.97.175.172 (talk) 18:38, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Again, your edits go against many style and standards of Wikipedia. Looking it over, your expansion of the plot isn't so bad (outside of the fact that you keep reverting the wrong game titles into use.) The problem is more that you're bloating the characters section so much, adding too much in-universe details with these long list of minor character with the age and gender. Look at the version you revert to - the in-universe fictional elements take up well over 50% of the article, probably approaching 75%. That's pretty strongly not the right balance - per MOS:PLOT. Sergecross73 msg me 18:45, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree on the character stuff; My intentions in those reversions was mostly to restore the plot summaries, not those. 111.97.175.172 (talk) 18:54, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, if I'm fine with the plot additions, and you're fine with the much shortened character section, then I believe we've come to a compromise. Sergecross73 msg me 18:59, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Trails of Cold Steel 3"[edit]

Just wondering- Has "Trails of Cold Steel 3" (as in, an English release) ACTUALLY been announced or is this just people jumping the gun again? All I've seen is announcements of the Japanese release, so using the English title and stating "Trails of Cold Steel III was officially announced" seems like it could be misleading if it's just gaming sites messing up the title for no reason again (the first hit I got was, ugh, Siliconera). 111.97.175.172 (talk) 18:42, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The game was officially announced, but no, an English release for the title has not been announced yet. The article makes no mention of an English release, it just refers to the title in English. That's typically what happens when a sequel with the same naming conventions is announced - see Valkyria Chronicles 3 and discussion on it - where there's little reason to believe any other sort of title would possibly be chosen. Gematsu uses the title as well, for the record. Sergecross73 msg me 18:57, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

SPOILERS[edit]

How about removing the major spoilers from the plot summary? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.189.70.198 (talk) 16:04, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:SPOILERS, they are allowed on Wikipedia. Sergecross73 msg me 16:43, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
