Basic information[edit]

Image[edit]

Photo paranoia has struck even this sleepy backwater of Wikipedia. The image I added is from the promotional photo area of www.bigdamnband.com, and the copyright to the photo is owned by the band (as Work for Hire), and I have the permission of ALL THREE BLOODY MEMBERS OF THE BAND!K8 fan 03:03, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, by uploading an image owned by the band, and provided for the specific purpose of publicity, I stumbled upon one of those tempests in a teapot that frequently consume people who should know better. Rev Josh Peyton re-affirmed last night by phone that the image is free to use on Wikipedia. I guess I'll have to wait until they play Kansas City, Missouri again so I can take a mediocre picture that will meet someone's definition of doctrinal purity.K8 fan 23:08, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've uploaded a mediocre picture that I personally shot at a concert in Chicago. Apologies for the worse quality. At some point the band will release their promotional picture under an open license. But deleting images is the wrong way to send a message. K8 fan 00:27, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Potential deletion[edit]

The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band has been on tour constantly and play 200+ dates a year. They have opened for other nationally known acts, and headline at nationally known blues clubs including the House of Blues. They have played at blues festivals all over the US and at festivals in Italy and Switzerland.

I don't believe there is an actual measure of "notability" where one can say "this person is notable and this person is not", but in the world of roots blues, The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band is already well known in the genre and gets reviewed in the genre press. _____________ The Big Damn Band has sold thousands of records world wide, appeared on the Jerry Springer show, performed live on NPR, Sirius Satellite Radio, etc. Just because you haven't heard of them - it means nothing. Isn't the damn encyclopedia supposed to inform people anyway.

You need to cite some reliable sources for your information, the prod has been re-added until you can provide more than just a myspace site. A sinple Google search (which anyone proposing to delete a page should have done) reveals the band has played By Southwest, is sold on Raphosody and Amazon. This is a band with an enthusiastic following, as may be seen from a search of YouTube. K8 fan 18:43, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I beg your pardon, the prod was removed twice in total, but the first was by an anonymous editor, working from 210.10.202.228. However, it's not a notability section we're after, it's ensuring the information in the article has reliable sources to verify its notability. I'd be delighted if the community keep the article by improving it to meet these Wikipedia policies, that's why I've raised it at articles for deletion. All the best... I believe they meet the following criteria on that page:
  1. Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country, reported in reliable sources.
  2. Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability.
  3. Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that page.)
  4. Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast on a national radio or TV network.

For #1, In the summer of 2006, they did a tour of Italy and Switzerland. For #2, they are well-respected for their mastery of the "Clarksdale" style of "country blues" (Charlie Patton was the most well-known performer). That's fine, so feel free to add your comments to the articles for deletion debate. Ideally you can reference these criteria within the article using WP:CITE as your guideline. "To date" rant[edit]

Who the heck writes phrases like "To date" in Wikipedia articles? It basically equals "At some unspecified point in time", so the reader has absolutely no idea when was the following claim true or how outdated it might have become by the time of reading - whether it was written yesterday or a decade ago. Does the writer expect every reader to track down his edits from the history page? Why the duck didn't they just write the bloody date into the article? Was the concept of a calendar too foreign for them? And this vagueness spreads across Wikipedia like an STD. Ugh! --85.253.218.135 (talk) 12:14, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate description of "Front Porch Sessions"[edit]

Front Porch Sessions' description states that it ". . .consists of original songs apart from a cover of the Furry Lewis song When My Baby Left Me." This is incorrect, as "Cornbread and Butterbeans" is also a cover originally by Johnny Tyler (link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm7D54ZpHyM).
