Dodgy story[edit]

"The passengers were shown their way to buses which were convenienty ready to board despite the very short notice of the cancellation. The alleged landslide somehow didn't block the Melbourne bound Vinelander that same evening and various people started to 'smell a rat'."

This train ran three times a week between Melbourne and Mildura, because there was only one train. It went north one night and south the next night, repeating this three times in a week with one day not running. Unlike daily trains services which need two train consists to operate in both directions at the same time.

This being apparently the case, then the Melbourne-bound Vinelander would never be running on the same night as the Mildura-bound Vinelander.
