Nationality[edit]

Pleaese cite he Italian nationality, although it is true. Matthew_hk tc 09:24, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inter move[edit]

The genoa president himself hhas confirmed the move to Inter, how much more official do you require? Wait until the 1st of july when he actually moves? I see Lukas Podolski's page talks about his Koln move already despite it not having happened. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.234.168.19 (talk) 13:02, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eligibly of Italy[edit]

It totally a matter that FIFA define the match in Gold Cup is full cap or not. Gold Cup is an official competition, and the Brazilian result were listed in A cap result archive of Brazil. No player can change nationality if he already have a full cap in official competition.[1] Matthew_hk tc 02:12, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. R4h4al (talk) 23:46, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Brazil caps[edit]

Thiago Motta's international appearances in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup is for the Brazil senior team and not for the Brazil U-23 team. Here are the reasons:

MT (talk) 08:28, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 36#Brazil international caps and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 51#Thiago Motta. The consensus on those discussion was that the caps is for Brazil and not for Brazil U-23. — MT (talk) 13:24, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree. According to the official website of the Brazilian Football Association, those matches aren't "A" matches for Brazil. --VAN ZANT (talk) 19:54, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm aware of that, but CBF is not the governing body that gets to decide whether these matches are official senior international matches or not, FIFA does. That's why the List of association football players with 100 or more caps is based on FIFA's official numbers, not based on the numbers from each country's football association. — MT (talk) 13:38, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are right. --VAN ZANT (talk) 19:24, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So he has played competitively for two different countries, why did FIFA allow this when it is against the rules? R4h4al (talk) 23:50, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't. The explanation of FIFA's rules is provided in the International section. Koncorde (talk) 11:55, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

It appears that his full name is Thiago Motta Santon Olivares, but if "Thiago" is his first name, "Motta", "Santon" and "Olivares" should be his three family names. Are we sure about that? Brazilians maximum have two family names. Isn't it a hoax? --VAN ZANT (talk) 18:46, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Middle names? GiantSnowman 19:04, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Remember he is part Italian, Santon is probably his Italian name, if not his middle name. Adam4267 (talk) 19:07, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Any evidence that 'Motta' is even his surname? GiantSnowman 19:08, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • His name, from what i have learned from dealing extensively in Spanish football, is just that, "THIAGO MOTTA", nothing else. --Vasco Amaral (talk) 19:59, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW ZeroZero profile, Football-Lineups.com and rssf all have used Thiago Motta Santon Olivares --ClubOranjeT 09:02, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, it seems my "extensive dealing" did not help me much here, always learning! I really believed he was just "THIAGO MOTTA", would not be that strange to see a person with only two names, thanks for the help! - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:44, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Considering he is Brazilian by birth, I would assume "Santon" and "Olivares" are his family names, not "Motta". "Thiago Motta" would be his given names. Only knowing his parent's name can we know for sure. Digirami (talk) 17:53, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As Zerozero welcome everyone to submit information, it can't be a source of his full name. Would someone find an Italian or Brazilian article to confirm that? RSSSF also maintain by some die-hard football fans but may or may not correct. Matthew_hk tc 19:39, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
His father is Carlos Roberto Motta, the full name of zerozero is fake. [11][12] Matthew_hk tc 19:46, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The story of Motta himself was just like Veron and most of the South American players, some kind of strange family tree. It involved great-great grandfather Alberto and Maria Culatti, great-grandfather Fortunato Fogagnolo (who died very young and gave birth of Tiago's grandma). As we knew family tree may be fake and birth cert. may be modified in order to obtain the passport for some players, based on current information Thiago family did not involved the surname Santon nor Olivares, it just seems fake. Matthew_hk tc 19:57, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yet i can't find source for the alleged full name. CBF use Thiago Motta only [13] Matthew_hk tc 20:09, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Matthew hk, his name is only Thiago Motta. His mother is born Fogagnolo. Both his mother and father are of Italian descent, very different from the case of Verón. Thiago Motta's ancestry is not an invention. He holds the Italian citizenship since his childhood. Dantadd (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ignore my guess. I just want to prove "Thiago Motta" is his only name, no Santon nor Olivares as of current available information. According to above discussion, Vasco disagree and only the thread starter agree and added it to the main page by himself.Matthew_hk tc 10:48, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
