Why 1000 mm?[edit]

Why did India, being part of the British Empire, chose the metric 1000 mm and not 914 mm (3 ft) or 1067 mm (3.5 ft)? --84.57.59.201 (talk) 23:18, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
