UCF Football National Championship[edit]

This is not an NCAA recognized Championship RMiller88 (talk) 22:35, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@RMiller88: There aren't any in FBS. —C.Fred (talk) 22:37, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well I would have to say you're wrong. As I can look back to 1869 and find a national champion recognized by the NCAA in what would be FBS schools. All except UCF. UCF is not recognized as a national champion by the NCAA RMiller88 (talk) 06:27, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Source? I mean, when I go to the NCAA website and click on the link for the 2019 Division I football championship, the team winning it is North Dakota State. —C.Fred (talk) 12:49, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The NCAA does not award a national championship at the FBS level. The national championships are awarded by NCAA-recognized selectors including the "College Football Playoff," the Associated Press, and indeed, the Colley Matrix, among others. The only authoritative source for recognized FBS (formerly 1-A) championships is the NCAA record book, which does recognized the UCF national championship. http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/2019/FBS.pdf — Preceding unsigned comment added by CitrusCritter (talkcontribs) 19:54, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

UCF Bowl Record[edit]

UCF bowl record should be at 5-6 after the Marshall game. ~Louay — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:4270:18B9:2DAB:CD0F:3163:957F (talk) 17:09, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done:
@NerdVilla21: Please provide sources that show the school is no longer claiming the title. Even then. —C.Fred (talk) 17:35, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

National Championship[edit]

A agreement needs to be made about what to do about 2017 UFC claim that they won the national championship when in fact they were not selected and did not play in the playoffs nor did they win the championship. I have put temporary that the their claim to the National Championship is disputed with Alabama Crimson Tide who won the championship that year. Personally it is my though that there claimed to National title should not be put in the infobox unless they actually won the championship. BigRed606 (talk) 02:03, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@BigRed606: An agreement was previously made, however if you would like to reopen it just make sure to tag everyone previously involved. --Elisfkc (talk) 02:41, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Elisfkc Yes thank you I was just reading the discussion when you commented. BigRed606 (talk) 02:45, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Elisfkc I agree with the consensus as well although I believe a note should be placed right next to the national title as well as the word disputed since it is disputed with the other pollster giving Alabama the win I will also add part of what you were mentioning in the consensus page to the note. BigRed606 (talk) 03:08, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@BigRed606: That's what the note is for. It formats better and looks less disruptive. Almost every other mention of the 2017 season on this article mentions the fact that it is disputed by others. --Elisfkc (talk) 03:13, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Recent unsourced Infobox edits[1],[2],[3] have been made contrary to the MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE guideline, which includes When considering any aspect of infobox design, keep in mind the purpose of an infobox: to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article (an article should remain complete with its summary infobox ignored). Therefore the article's Infobox has been reverted to the prior and stable format, pending sourcing aligned with potential new language.
Specifically, this Talk section begins with a fundamental misstatement of fact re "the national championship" and misnomer of "disputed" which appears to be a reframing of the routine occurrence of different selectors choosing different teams -see College football national championships in NCAA Division I FBS#Yearly national championship selections from major selectors. Editors should restate the above disagreement, with more precise language as supported by offered WP:Reliable source citations. UW Dawgs (talk) 05:09, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the claimed national title in 2017 under accomplishments. There is no such thing as a claimed national title game. You either one the CFB playoff game you you didn’t. Clemson is in the P5 with one loss which is better than a undefeated team that only plays 2 teams in the power 5. Alabama lost in the National Championship and they beat auburn who UCF barley beat by over 20. You either make or you don’t and UCF did not. 2600:1700:E640:5140:81BB:DA7E:5A3F:5F61 (talk) 23:38, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

UCF was selected by the Colley Matrix as national champion in 2017. UCF claimed it. That's a claimed national title. The NCAA does not crown an official national champion for FBS football. There are selectors that name their own champions. The College Football Playoff is one of those selectors and is generally viewed as the de facto National Champion. However, they're still only one selector and other official selectors can name their own Champion. UCF beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Auburn beat the two CFP finalists earlier in the season. Alabama 26-14 and Georgia 40-17. Alabama did not beat Auburn that year. UCF can't win what they weren't selected to play for, but since the Colley Matrix did select them as national champions, the precedent is certainly there for them to claim it. 209.16.119.202 (talk) 15:48, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Change UCF’s 2017 championship from Claimed to Unclaimed, as it was not an official championship. 2600:387:F:5618:0:0:0:6 (talk) 23:47, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
