Luxembourg Unable to Qualify?

[edit]

Forgive me for my density, but can someone explain exactly why Luxembourg is unable to qualify? A basic overview of the table shows that they can still get to 15 points, which, with the appropriate miracles, could put them in a tie with Bulgaria(?? ... don't remember the team) for second place. Then I checked their result in the match they played with Bulgaria and Lux. only lost by 1-0. I recognize that it's basically moot, but I wouldn't like to shortchange Luxembourg. True! And in those hypothetical 15 points, are 3 points conquered on their away game with Bulgaria, which Luxembourg might hypothetically win by more than 1 goal. Parutakupiu talk || contribs 23:20, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Luxembourg are unable to qualify. After Netherlands vs. Bulgaria one of those teams will end up with more than 15 points regardless of the result, making Luxembourg unable to catch the team in second place, and therefore eliminated. - MTC 05:27, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. That came to me last night before I even checked back here. Thanks, MTC. Kingnavland 01:57, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Slovenia

[edit]

Can you explain slovenia's elimination possiblitites? because i don't see how slovenia can be eliminated.

The top 3 have to play each other, so some of them have to get points. That means at least 2 of them will have more points than slovenia at the end. Aheyfromhome 15:21, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to comment on that, why is Slovenia marked red and not Albania... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.78.218.206 (talk) 14:29, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reason for Albania is that they have a game in hand! El-Nin09 19:08, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also becuase albania didn't had a big loss agansit the netherlands, only 0-1.And albania keeped some goal diffrence alive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cokepepsi (talkcontribs) 00:48, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No because that will count for nout, because UEFA do it on head to head not goal difference, it is points really. El-Nin09 18:10, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archaic Acronyms

[edit]

Can someone please tell me why the acronym on the table for Romania is ROU? Is Romania still known as Roumania in the English speaking world or in Romania? No. Does the word Romania contain the letter U? I'm pretty sure it doesn't. So why all the ROU? SirJibby 12:14, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FIFA currently uses ROU as Romania's country code (I don't know why), and we have no reason not to use FIFA codes here. - MTC 12:25, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well then someone should tell FIFA that there's no U in Romania or România (the Romanian word for Romania). SirJibby 15:14, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I assume it comes from French "Roumanie". --217.246.2.223 16:13, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bulgaria

[edit]

How can Bulgaria still qualify if they are four points behind Netherlands with one game left?--Mas 18 dl 08:40, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They have two games left. - MTC 08:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
