'Witnessed'[edit]

"Idaho made her triumphal entry into Tokyo Bay with occupation troops on 27 August, and witnessed the signing of the surrender on board Missouri on 2 September."

Can a ship "witness" a ceremony? Sca (talk) 18:26, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Good point. That's a bit too poetic for an encyclopedia. I have seen writers describe buildings as having "witnessed" events in history, but we should avoid getting that literary. I changed it to the more prosaic "was present for". ·:· Will Beback ·:· 07:52, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
