Errors[edit]

Presumably Norway isn't an African Country. Someone should look into that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.99.123 (talk) 15:02, 10 December 2009 (UTC) hi —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.214.119.161 (talk) 22:30, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why does the article describe ECOSOC as one of the "six" principal organs? The page to which this statement is linked clearly stipulates that there are only five principal organs.--Hellosparta (talk) 18:14, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lucis Trust[edit]

The "Lucis Trust" is often cited as having controversial involvement with the organisation in this article, but I can't for the life of me figure out how. Does anyone know so that the information can be included?

Citation[edit]

This page is completely illegitimate if it isn't cited! Please, if you are contributing, cite something! As it is, this page contains some good info that I'd like to use in a research project, but none of it is validated, save one reference on the President.--Puck85 22:37, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

US Centrism[edit]

I detect a rather US-centric perspective in this article. For instance:

The U.S. has been a member since the UN was founded

and

However, beginning in 1992, the U.S. and other nations began an effort to make ECOSOC more relevant by strengthening its policy responsibilities in economic, social, and related fields, particularly in furthering development objectives.

Someone hasn't been copying PR from the State Department website have they?

(Apparently. It's a straight cut-n-paste from a state department dispatch with minor wikification. Nobody's seen fit to touch it at least since February, though... --Brion)

The fact that the US has been a member of ECOSOC since its founding is not in and of itself relevant--I'm sure several other countries have as well. (I believe there is a convention that all permanent Security Council members are elected members of ECOSOC.) Similarly, if several nations were behind the reforms, why single the US out? (unless it made an overwhelming contribution). Finally, if this does come from a US source, as I suspect it does, what the US describes as "reforms" may well be seen in a negative light by other nations--which would make this article non-NPOV. - SJK

Improving the quality and accessibility of education in developing countries as a basis for overcoming inequality and generating new opportunities for eradicating poverty[edit]

President[edit]

How can the President be from Haiti when they aren't even a member? The citation given is outdated and doesn't even have the same person listed. The following source says the president is from Malaysia: http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/90001/90777/90856/7044344.html 174.58.137.241 (talk) 21:16, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Historical Ecosoc membership[edit]

Would it not make sense to include historical membership of ECOSOC in this article? Or to create a new page for this as has been done for the Security Council. Data for the WEOG members can be found here. Bluecurrent (talk) 18:01, 20 March 2011 (UTC) Has now been created.Bluecurrent (talk) 21:06, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to remove unsourced section 'Reform of the Economic and Social Council'[edit]

This section regarding a failed effort at what was termed "reform" has remained tagged as without a source for about eight months, and I feel that the time has come to remove it. I invite comments from interested parties. Jusdafax 12:42, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish Heart for Africa[edit]

Jewish Heart for Africa was recently given consultative status at ECOSOC. Where would this go? --Activism1234 01:09, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
