Added the seal of the University of Alaska Anchorage[edit]

I added the seal and now we need an {{Infobox University2| (University Infobox).--JeffreyAllen1975 07:04, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Academics[edit]

If we're going to start adding specifics on some of the programs (as has been done regarding the aviation program), perhaps we should sort the programs appropriately in the Academics section (for example, the Aviation Technology department falls under the Community and Technical College). Not sure how to do this without a lot of empty sections and redlinks... cluth 01:19, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

How many students?[edit]

The infobox says that there are 16,242 students, while the introduction says that there are "more than 17,000", with 14,000 on the main campus. Is the 16,242 claim correct, or the >17,000 one? DBowie (talk) 19:40, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

All such numbers should be listed as estimates with a tolerance of +/- 100, because those number change from month-to-month and in fact, from week-to-week. Numbers listed to five or six digits, such as 16,242 are really absurdities because of students dropping out any time they want to, and also groups of new students enrolling or graduating at various times.

I disagree with the previously unsigned comment above that there should be a threshold of values which we can use. UA System publishes data (as required by law) regarding enrollment. There is no reason that we couldn't cite that data and state what UA reports as current enrollment. If you guys feel that my idea is a good response to the problem, I will complete that change within the month. (In addition, I don't think there is any way to actually cite a range of enrollment numbers. A lack of citations seems to be a major problem with this wiki page). Redirects needed[edit]

There is no earthly reason why University of Alaska at Anchorage should redirect here. That might not be official, but it is extremely common, and it will save a lot of people a lot of aggravation. Likewise, University of Alaska - Anchorage and University of Alaska, Anchorage should be included. 19:24, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Campus names[edit]

The first line of the entry currently says that "about 14,000 [students] attend classes at Goose Lake, its main campus in Anchorage". How widespread is calling UAA's main campus "Goose Lake"? It appears in some university materials, but doesn't appear much in the sort of stuff the general public would associate with the campus. In any event, it doesn't parse cleanly as phrased, and should be reworded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DBowie (talkcontribs) 17:50, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

False Information Regarding Doctoral Degrees[edit]

UAA does not confer PhDs to students. A PhD may only be obtained through another university which is qualified to confer such a high degree of mastery. In the main section, I read "UAA offers graduate school degrees, including the master's degree and the Doctor of Philosophy degree through its Graduate Division." I will remove this line, an replace it with "UAA offers Master's Degrees and Graduate Certificates in select programs, and the ability to complete certain PhD programs through cooperating universities", along with a link to the UAA Graduate School Website, where it lists that information. We cannot list that UAA is able to confer PhDs when this is flat out untrue. Sdegan (talk) 05:46, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

The preceding statement was true at the time it was made, but as of sometime during spring 2012 UAA is able to confer doctoral degrees itself (and has done so, in fact, awarding two of them in May 2012), as is correctly mentioned on the page. DBowie (talk) 21:35, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Lack of citations[edit]

I tagged this wiki page as needing help with citations. Currently, tons of statistical data is presented on this wiki page, with only two citations which have nothing to do with said statistics. I'll remove non-cited, unverifiable information over winter break if nobody has any objections. A cursory glance tells me that there exist myriad statistics on this page which are untrue, and which need to be updated. Sdegan (talk) 06:16, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

I removed statistics which did not have verifiable citations, and have removed the References Needed tag at the top of the page. Sdegan (talk) 21:57, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Updated Colleges Names in Introduction[edit]

I updated the listing of colleges in alphabetical order and with the new names for College of Health and Engineering based on the UAA chancellor's organization chart. psalmody
