Valette, Adolphe. 1876 - 1942. French artist noted for his landscapes and scenes of domestic life. He moved to England in 1903 and was art master at the Municipal School of Art, Manchester, from 1906 to 1920. He was influenced by the urban landscape of the Midlands, a regard for which he instilled in his students, notably the young L.S. Lowry. He retired to France in 1928 to live in his parents' cottage.
