– These two magazines share the same name which makes the Indian article WP:INCDAB (and the French one incorrect per WP:DATERANGE). Disambiguating by country will be the best recognizable qualifier. Additionally Verve (magazine) should redirect to Verve. Gonnym (talk) 15:23, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Last issue?[edit]

@BombaiyyaMag: have you read through the policy I linked in my edit summary? Please see the policies on verfiability (WP:V) and original research (WP:OR). WP:V states that "verifiability means other people using the encyclopedia can check that the information comes from a reliable source. Wikipedia does not publish original research. Its content is determined by previously published information rather than the beliefs or experiences of editors. Even if you are sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it."

You added the line, "[t]he last digital issue of the magazine was released in June 2020" and cited it to the Instagram page of the Verve in an incorrectly formatted reference with the following line, "[t]he last digital issue themed on Environment was released online as can be seen on the publication's verified Instagram handle" in place of the title name. This is original research 101. You should be able to provide a citation which directly states that the magazine issued its last release on June 2020 or that it has seized publication which is the implication you seem to be presenting by changing all the present tense forms to past, if it indeed has seized publication. Tayi Arajakate Talk 10:44, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Tayi Arajakate: I did see the links and I know what no original research on WP means. However, not all defunct publications officially issue a statement of closure/switch in format/frequency, and I believe that what I had added in light of that explained that they are not in print anymore and have gone digital. They are published on a web-only basis, which is evident from the site. The very fact that there has been no issue up after June 2020 is indeed the verification that is needed, and it means that they are not printing the magazine or even coming out with an online digital issue anymore. At this rate, dead publications from the 1930s which never made any official statement about their closure would still be listed on an encyclopedia like Wiki as functional. This would be a complete lie and totally misleading for general readers who will believe that a certain publication exists when it does not. BombaiyyaMag (talk) 18:41, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We must at least have the frequency set to "Web Only/Digital/out of print", rather than "monthly"? If they were a "monthly", why is it 6 months since their last issue was out? Not only that, even before June 2020 or the lockdown, their issues have never come out on a monthly basis, so how on earth are they a monthly? This would amount to completely taking a subscriber/reader for a ride if they go on and pay money expecting 12 issues of the magazine annually. BombaiyyaMag (talk) 18:48, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have retained the present tense in the first line but also added updates about their current frequency and format. BombaiyyaMag (talk) 19:28, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
BombaiyyaMag, at the very best the only thing that is verifiable from that is that their last print edition came out in June 2020 but not that they have stopped publishing in print. If a magazine is notable and has stopped publishing then reliable secondary sources (e.g books/journals documenting it or other news sources) would be available which would directly state so, Verve from what I understand is certainly notable. Tayi Arajakate Talk 12:26, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Tayi Arajakate, that is why I have retained the present tense in the first line. We have nowhere said in the current version that the magazine has ceased publication, but only that it remained in print till June 2020. We have only updated the format/frequency and mentioned when the last issue was out. Once they come out in print again (and it has been 6 months since), we will update that. In the meanwhile, I personally think that this makes sense. BombaiyyaMag (talk) 01:19, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
BombaiyyaMag, the line, "is now published in a web-only format" still implies that it has stopped publishing in print and converted into a website. We can't verify this, I've modified the phrasing a bit to remove this implication. Tayi Arajakate Talk 07:20, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, this does sound fine and serves the purpose. BombaiyyaMag (talk) 07:24, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
