First paragraph could really use some work - clarification and it isn't completely accurate Uberveritas (talk) 00:29, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Is it not the same article as Sacristy ? I don't know what is the best way to merge or to link both articles. M.Dubois

aside from the important derived meanings of the word vestry detailed in the article (where sacristy would be a misnomer) I think the word sacristy is now used by just one denomination in particular for the purposes described in the sacristy article. Eddaido (talk) 23:17, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

How did the vestries recruit their members? Was membership in the gift of a local squire or similar, or was there some form of election? Or did you just turn up? BTLizard (talk) 14:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

The lede, as altered by this edit, now appears to say that every room in or attached to every place of worship is a vestry. That can't be right. James500 (talk) 01:12, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

The statement that the committees exercised "considerable" power is an expression of opinion the source of which ought to be identified. James500 (talk) 01:33, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

How is this different from a Sacristy?-- (talk) 15:53, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Split article[edit]

The vestry committee was a major part of local government for several centuries and it is not appropriate to have it as a heading in an article which starts with the vestry room. Suggest splitting vestry and vestry committee Dougsim (talk) 06:40, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

I don't agree. I'd rather have one article on two related subjects than two miserably short articles on related subjects. The council is named after the room in which it meets/met. It makes sense to me to keep them together. (talk) 17:20, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
I support the suggestion. I would split to [ [Vestry]], and [ [Vestry (ecclesiastical)]]. --ClemRutter (talk) 09:56, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
I have just been Bold. It at least now reads like an article- please ce and look to adding content to the lead. --ClemRutter (talk) 10:20, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
