Add an additional web site link[edit]

To your list of Wayne Newton website links, please add the website for the Wayne Newton International Friends Club, Inc. web site, which is www.wnifc.com. His Friends Club members are called "Wayniacs".

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for personal promotion. Adding the link would violate WP policies. David Spector (talk) 19:27, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tone of voice[edit]

I've just heard Wayne Newton sing for the first time and when I looked him up on Wikipedia I was shocked to see that there is no reference to his extremely high tone of voice (I assumed, as many others must have in the past, that it was a woman singing). Surely this is a notable feature of his career? Seeing as I know absolutely nothing else about him, I didn't feel I should add it, but I'd appreciate it if someone would. —86.129.74.90, 18:08, 13 September 2006

I agree that he is and has always been closely associated with his very distinctive and unusually high voice, and I agree there should be some mention of it in the article: it's who he is professionally. Unfortunately, I don't have a source. TheScotch (talk) 07:22, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Belated thanks. Finally added. —24.191.101.189 (talk) 01:47, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictions[edit]

These should be corrected: Newton's birthplace is given as both Norfolk, Virginia and Roanoke, Virginia, and the date of his first marriage is given as both 1968 and 1969. DES 11:45, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wayne was born in NORFOLK not Roanoke! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.168.221.111 (talk) 17:59, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

30,000 shows in 40 years ?[edit]

For him to have done 30,000 solo Vegas shows in 40 years, he'd have to have done two shows a night every single day of the year. Sorry, but that's just not possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrew G. Doe (talkcontribs) 12:43, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This claim is not currently made. David Spector (talk) 19:31, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Surgery[edit]

Did this guy have any surgery on his face..it sure looks like that

Descent from Pocahontas[edit]

On Larry King (November 29, 2007) Newton said he is a direct descendant of Pocahontas, through his father's side of the family, and that he is attempting to retrieve Pocahontas's remains from England. This should be added to the article. Badagnani (talk) 02:51, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the same interview, Carson Wayne Newton has said that John William Carson had been "mean-spirited", & the source of rumors of homosexuality, & mafia-testimony. The mafia comments had gotten him on a six-person death-list; according to the fbi, the other five had been assassinated. All of this originating from Johnny Carson's humor.

He, also, says that his uso efforts have led to his heart infection.

Jerry Newton[edit]

There's very little info on Jerry Newton. What's the story on him? What was the reasoning behind their split? Obviously Wayne had the voice/charisma/whatever, but was there more to it? The Jerry Newton article is virtually blank. Brainscar (talk) 05:45, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That article is probably not notable, and may be deleted. Please move discussion there. David Spector (talk) 19:34, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

lawsuit[edit]

This article contains a very long quotation by a person associated with a "famous libel lawsuit" in 1986 between NBC and Newton, yet the details of the suit are nowhere to be found. If the suit is that famous, it should be mentioned.

Genealogical claim[edit]

Newton was born in Norfolk, and grew up in Roanoke. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.168.221.111 (talk) 15:05, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re Pocahontas and Rolfe. If Newton can prove his claim then it can be included. Without a verified source - and based upon nothing more than self-statement on a chatshow - its pushing credibility too far and I've removed it. Plutonium27 (talk) 00:31, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Has Wayne Newton's Native American ancestry (through either parent) been genealogically verified? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 16:07, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't a reliable source by Wikipedia's standards [and so should not be included in the article], but since Wayne Newton is a (very) distant cousin of mine I can trace his (and my) Patawomeck ancestry. On the genealogical chart here, his 6th great-grandmother (#259 on the chart) is Elizabeth Waddington (1703–1749). Her father was Francis Waddington (1675–1723). His mother was Christian Pettus (b. 1636), and Christian's mother was a Patawomeck woman named Ka-Okee (b. 1611). So Wayne Newton's 9th great-grandmother was a known Patawomeck. There are probably many other Patawomecks in the Newton line; the Patawomecks are sometimes called the "Newton Indians" in Stafford County. But Ka-Okee is the important one, because according to oral history she was Pocahontas' daughter by her first marriage to the Patawomeck weroance Kocoum. But that is not universally accepted; see Pocahontas#Possible marriage to "Kocoum" for details. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 05:12, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Branson, MO[edit]

Newton spent several years performing in Branson, MO. There's absolutely no mention of it in the article. 173.185.214.222 (talk) 22:26, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article meantions his financial woes and then says that by 1999 he was financial well off, again. The reason was that he was singing to packed houses every night for five years or so at Branson, MO. 71.29.15.60 (talk) 14:06, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Arabian horse breeder[edit]

Wayne is a rather noted breeder of Arabian Horses, he's been involved in the industry for decades. I'd like to add a bit about that to this article, and I'd be glad to sandbox any proposed changes. I've done several FAs on other Arabian breeders, including Homer Davenport and Bazy Tankersley if anyone wants to check out the work I do. If anyone has suggestions or comments, please let me know. If I don't hear from anyone, I'll probably start on a section here in the next few weeks as time permits. Thanks. Montanabw(talk) 20:26, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnic Lineage[edit]

I made this edit and this edit providing detail regarding Newton's native American heritage. They include a Washington Post Article reporting quite plainly that, "his mother was half-Cherokee, his father half-Powhatan."

Those edits were reverted to state "He believes he has some Native American ancestry (specifically, that his mother had some distant Cherokee and his father Powhatan heritage)."

The statement in the WaPo article is a RS, and the editors making the reversions offer no source to suggest the WaPo article is incorrect, or that these are merely Newton's "belief."

IF conflicting sources are provided, the article should provide both alternate explanations.

In the absence of such sources, there is no basis for the reversions. John2510 (talk) 16:30, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You have it backwards: Newton is the one who has to provide reliable sources for his claim. He never has. No legitimate tribe claims him. You can't source a negative. Read WP:NDNID for how these things are sorted and categorized. He is self-identified only.
While the Post may be RS for other matters, in this case, they clearly only printed his self-claim. They did not do investigative reporting, or even the due diligence of checking with the tribes before running the story. ICT went through upheaval and during the time of that article they had non-Native writers who also did not investigate self-claims. Again, read the content essay. It's an ongoing issue with bios on WP, which is why the Indigenous wikiproject took the time to write it. You have neither sourcing nor consensus to make these changes and you are revert-warring to preserve them. You need to stop. - CorbieVreccan 20:57, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Malcolm In the Middle[edit]

Pretty sure he was in an episode of Malcolm In the Middle too but you guys don’t have it listed here. The family goes to Vegas and Lois is obsessed with him. 2600:1001:B0E8:9C0:4515:8C93:910C:D376 (talk) 14:35, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I looked into this and it appears the episode was inspired by Vegas Vacation and had a character like Wayne Newton, but was not actually played by him. Pennsylvania2 (talk) 03:29, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe a better photo?[edit]

The photograph on this article is terrifying, no better photos of Mr. Newton? 2603:6010:A905:4C94:4067:1E77:40B5:859 (talk) 06:45, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Highlight Role in Bond Film[edit]

Mr. Newton had a major supporting role in the 1989 film License to Kill. It's not mentioned at all in the text - only listed in film credits. My (now adult) kids know Wayne Newton only through this film and his vocals in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. 184.56.210.153 (talk) 17:10, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
