Fair use rationale for Image:Tlchat.JPG[edit]
Image:Tlchat.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Recording Date[edit]
Okay, so I will admit for years I have made guesses at, when TLC began recording their debut album. As early as February 1991, Perri Reid came across this group called 2nd Nature, likely based on news like this. By February 28, 1991, Crystal had been dismissed and the two others signed with Pebbitone under the new name, TLC. After Rozonda Thomas joined on April 2, 1991 and they were signed to LaFace on May 10, 1991, according to Dallas Austin he was re-introduced to them, and the group immediately began recording a set of 5 songs with him. Amongst this first set were, this single and the lead single. According to a VH1 documentary, "within a month" they entered the studio to record their album.
Based on this development, does this mean that What About Your Friends, was indeed recorded sometime between May 10, 1991 and June 6, 1991? Rozonda Thomas was dismissed on June 7, 1991. - I got the May 10, 1991 date wrong it seems, as they were "part" of the LaFace simply through Pebbitone starting on April 2nd, until a formal agreement was made on May 10th. In terms of finding a reliable source, that is the tricky part in terms, what really constitutes reliable. The Behind The Music documentary from 1999 is copyrighted material of Viacom, being showcased independent of VH1 on Youtube here. Although it does state between the 10:00 and 11:00 minute marks, that "within a month TLC was the studio recording their debut album." Even at that I have some issues with it, which I think others might too. Youtube has often not been accepted as a source, due to the legal aspects I am guessing? Dallas Austin also reported in a 1995 Billboard interview for Creep (TLC song), that he began recording with them a batch of 5 songs upon first meeting with them, which was initiated by Antonio and Kenneth Edmonds (joint owners of LaFace Records from 1989-1993). They were not part of LaFace officially until May 10, 1991 according to Reid's lawsuit. Sometime between April 2, 1991 and June 7, 1991, the group began recording their album. This single and lead single, were among that "batch of five" songs recorded. As of June 7, 1991, the document highlights Thomas was terminated from the group and then rejoined "a month or so later". - Adding together details like that (i.e., 5 songs were recorded at a certain time, this song was probably one of those five, therefore this song was recorded at that time) is synthesis. No help there.
