Made Minor Changes[edit]

I edited paragraph three of the section "life and work". I removed a couple interpretive comments, and some unsourced contradictory statements and restructured a few things to improve the grammar and flow. It might need a little more polishing as I avoided making any major changes. What was Borden before he turned christian?[edit]

Apparently he was converted as a child of 7, although he had been part of a churchgoing family all of his life. I guess you could say "unregenerate", but I wouldn't go so far as to say he was a "profligate". Does that help?Brian0324 (talk) 18:42, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Bible[edit]

I would be really interested to know the primary source for the writing in Borden's Bible. I have read elsewhere (Biographical Dictionary of Christian Missions 1998) that the writing was on a crumpled piece of paper. And yet the common story somehow has it written in a Bible - and apparently dated?

I think the story is likely untrue - I haven't been able to find a copy of "Borden of Yale," but other works that claim to be based on it do not include the phrase "No reserve, No retreat, No regret" - and I think they would, they are so dramatic. The phrase does describe his life well though.
