Requested move 2 July 2019[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Editors have shown that the footballer is the primary topic for Wu Lei. (non-admin closure) — Newslinger talk 08:31, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wu Lei (footballer)Wu Lei – No other article of a well-known person named "Wu Lei" on Wikipedia exists at this moment. The only other article/person that is displayed on the current "Wu Lei" page goes by the English name of "Leo Wu" on Wikipedia (and professionally). The "Wu Lei (footballer)" page should therefore be moved to "Wu Lei". Swazzer30 (talk) 07:47, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support No other article of a well-known person named "Wu Lei" on Wikipedia exists at this moment. The only other article/person that is displayed on the current "Wu Lei" page goes by the English name of "Leo Wu" on Wikipedia (and professionally outside of China). A simple search by typing in "Wu Lei" into Google will bring up results almost exclusively regarding Wu Lei (footballer); you would have to type "Leo Wu" on Google to bring up results regarding "Wu Lei (actor)". Since this is English language Wikipedia, I find it completely reasonable to have "Wu Lei (footballer)" occupy the "Wu Lei" page. Swazzer30 (talk) 07:47, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support and hatnote between Wu Lei and Leo Wu. GiantSnowman 08:29, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose China Daily etc. suggest that Wu Lei (actor) is better known outside football media. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:41, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The article doesn't say anything about "Leo Wu" being 'better known' than "Wu Lei (footballer)" outside of football media. A simple search by typing in "Wu Lei" into Google will bring up results almost exclusively regarding Wu Lei (footballer); you would have to type "Leo Wu" on Google to bring up results regarding "Wu Lei (actor)". Furthermore, "Leo Wu" mostly goes by his English name on both English language Wikipedia, and his media promotions outside of China. Since this is English language Wikipedia, I find it completely reasonable to have "Wu Lei (footballer)" occupy the "Wu Lei" page. Swazzer30 (talk) 21:32, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate depiction of performance[edit]

As a striker for a La Liga Team his performance is disastrous and <10 goals in 4 years with 79 appearances is a disgrace There should definitely be more content covering fan discontent with his performance and why he isn’t relegated to 2nd Team 82.15.43.223 (talk) 04:29, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Could you provide some reliable sources which cover alleged fan discontent? Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:59, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking about Wu Lei's religion[edit]

While I think it is entirely about his private belief, many Mandarin Chinese sources have confirmed that Wu Lei is a Muslim, because of his ethnicity, although Wu Lei rarely mentions about Islam at all. Still, given that Chinese sources are mostly state-approved, including in sports, plus the Huis are considered to be the model minority in China, if Wu Lei is a Muslim, then yes, he belongs to the Chinese Muslim category. Recent additions by 82.128.237.177[edit]

Hi. The additions by 82.128.237.177 are WP:undue and WP:original research.

193.166.150.14 reverted me saying that "Facts should not be concealed". If 82.128.237.177's addition are facts, we would need reliable sources to back these claims. Also, reliable sources would need to indicate that these alleged facts are due for inclusion. Robby.is.on (talk) 11:30, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think they are the same IP editor just changing IP addresses (likely manually). None of those look good enough for inclusion and looking at the "does not state" text, I am going to pitch in with Twinkle here. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 12:05, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
https://new.qq.com/rain/a/20200922A04VBR00 already mentioned that Wang Yongpo scored one goal for the Chinese team, and the entire game, the Chinese team only scored one goal. So, do you think Wu Lei also scored a goal in this match? Are you either not understanding Chinese or not understanding logic? 193.166.150.14 (talk) 13:00, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But why should this be inserted? He did not score? Ok, so did at least 9 other players. We are not a personal Wu Lei blog. Kante4 (talk) 13:08, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Did Wu Lei score a goal in this match or not? 82.128.237.177 (talk) 13:34, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Did all the other players score a goal? We don't even add every goal a player scores so why should we include it when he does not. And reverting all over again is edit-warring and disruptive. Kante4 (talk) 13:36, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Did Wu Lei score a goal in this match or not? 82.128.237.177 (talk) 13:40, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I won't get into that and made my points clear. Kante4 (talk) 13:43, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Did Wu Lei not score in that match? Am I not stating the facts? Why are you afraid to face the truth? What are you really afraid of? 82.128.237.177 (talk) 09:13, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As you say it is logical to assume that Wu Lei did not score but that conclusion is original research. From Wikipedia:original research: "On Wikipedia, original research means material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published source exists. This includes any analysis or synthesis of published material that reaches or implies a conclusion not stated by the sources." The fact that Wu Lei did not score is not explicitly stated. Per WP:undue, if reliable sources don't consider the fact that Wu Lei did not score important enough to explicitly state this, we shouldn't mention this either. Robby.is.on (talk) 13:10, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In logic, you can only prove the existence of something and not its non-existence. You do understand this basic logical principle, don't you? I have already provided evidence of Wang Yongpo scoring the only goal for the Chinese team. Can't you deduce from this that Wu Lei didn't score in that match? Is this simple logical reasoning really that difficult for you? 82.128.237.177 (talk) 09:17, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
