Critically endangered[edit]

How is it critically endangered if the population is known as being "below 10,000". That suggests there are close to 10,000 birds in which case it wouldn't be even endangered.Kotare 08:22, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

No, BirdLife International, the evaluator of bird IUCN ratings, uses the broad 2,500-9,999; see IUCN reference. Even if there are "close to 10,000 birds", this is only partially relevant to IUCN rating, which depends on many things, e.g. how fast the population is falling.
