Correct military designation and AK-47 or AKM
correct military designation was M-70 and not M70!
the M-70 was based on AK design but it is not a AK-47 nor AKM as it deviates from those standards (like the IMI Galil)
also a variety of configurations was/is produced under the the M-70 designation (some closer to AK-47 and some to AKM)! — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheLokov (talk • contribs) 03:40, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Correction of above stated
I do not know where did you hear or saw this, but correct military and manufacturer designation for it and for any other Zastava produced weapon is 'M70', not 'M-70'. But, that is actually irrelevant.
What is relevant, is the fact that M70 is just one of many modified copies of Soviet AKM assault rifle made by former Eastern bloc countries. The M70 actually has only a few modifications from the original. The only different factors of M70 are its handguard, grip and it has a rifle grenade sight on top of gas tube. But again, all those differences are again based on original design, which means that they are exchangeable with AKM parts. Everything else, from barrel, gas tube, compensator, sights, receiver, selector, bolt, under folding stock, caliber, and with that also magazines, and even mechanisms and action are de facto copies of AKM. So, M70 is not 'based' on anything, it is a copy, a copy of Soviet AKM, like, as an example, the Romanian PM-MD-63 or 65 is. Also, it is not copy of AK-47, because the AK-47 does not have compensator on barrel end, it also has an angled stock, not straigh, and it has a wooden grip, not plastic, like M70 and AKM have.
