Similarly to the name Silicon Valley, the term Tech Coast is used to emphasize the presence of many information technology companies in this area, such as Broadcom, Conexant, AutoVitals, Procore Technologies, ClearpathGPS, and Qualcomm.
The area hosts several important universities, such as California Institute of Technology, University of Southern California, University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, Santa Barbara, University of California, Irvine, University of California, San Diego, Cal State Long Beach, the Claremont Colleges, and San Diego State University.
