How to manage this template's initial visibility
To manage this template's visibility when it first appears, add the parameter:

|state=collapsed to show the template in its collapsed state, i.e. hidden apart from its titlebar – e.g. {{Cinema of the United States |state=collapsed}}
|state=expanded to show the template in its expanded state, i.e. fully visible – e.g. {{Cinema of the United States |state=expanded}}
|state=autocollapse to show the template in its collapsed state but only if there is another template of the same type on the page – e.g. {{Cinema of the United States |state=autocollapse}}

Unless set otherwise (see the |state= parameter in the template's code), the template's default state is autocollapse.

Note on the use of this template[edit]

Due to the huge amount of American films and also due to objections that have been expressed about its use, please, do not transclude this template in American film articles, but only in general articles about the American film industry. Here are suggestions, that can be further debated in the talk page:

  • Major American film studios
  • Major production companies
  • Hollywood (core article)
  • Core articles on US Industry Awards (Academy, Golden Globe, Directors Guild of America, etc)
  • Film festivals with a major award for American films (Sundance, …)
