The Getaway Car[edit]

Created by Launchballer (talk). Self-nominated at 14:08, 12 January 2016 (UTC).

  • @Launchballer: The hook needs some tweaking for grammar and clarity, but that's easily solved later. However, the hook fact does not appear in the article; indeed the article says nothing about O'Leary being considered to hist Top Gear. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:34, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure why it was removed, but I've reinstated it.--Launchballer 12:40, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
@Launchballer: the Daily Express is not a reliable source (the redtops are notorious for reporting rumours and for exaggerating or even making things up to suit their agenda). Can you find a better one? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:05, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
I really don't see how the Express qualifies as a red top given its colour scheme, but the Metro?--Launchballer 06:49, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
@Launchballer: The Metro is better but still not great. I'd approve the hook if you added the Metro source to the article, but if you had a stronger source the article would be better for it. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:53, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
I've added it - and re-added another one that seems to have been lost over time.--Launchballer 18:45, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Although the hook seems properly sourced now, the entire "Cars" section is not. Please resolve this.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 00:00, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
Added.--Launchballer 09:55, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Thank you, that looks better now. However, a full review is still needed for this nomination. One thing to keep in mind: careful attention has to be paid to the hook and HJ Mitchell's comment regarding that ("The hook needs some tweaking for grammar and clarity").—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 21:37, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
The hook states that "Dermot O'Leary was considered as host of Top Gear", but the source says that "rumours that Dermot O’Leary and Philip Glenister are in the running are completely untrue". This pretty much directly contradicts, and certainly does not support, the hook fact. Harrias talk 08:29, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
ALT1: ... that The Getaway Car's co-host, The Stig, worked on a show The Getaway Car's host Dermot O'Leary was rumored to be hosting? That also needs tweaking but I'm in college and will review this later.--Launchballer 13:19, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Rumours are not really the best information to put into hooks. By their very nature they are hard to verify, especially if they're sourced by tabloids. I would like to see a hook which has nothing to do with this hosting issue.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 10:15, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
ALT2 ... that after Christopher Stevens of the Daily Mail described The Stig-co-hosted The Getaway Car as "the worst TV spin-off since Joey Tribbiani got his own series on the back of Friends", the actor who played Tribbiani was announced as a host of The Stig-co-hosted Top Gear? That can probably be cut down though.--Launchballer 12:40, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Yes, not only can that be cut down, it must be cut down. Much too long. Focusing on the Daily Mail part is probably the best way forward.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 13:10, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
ALT3... that The Getaway Car was described as "the worst TV spin-off since Joey Tribbiani got his own series", the actor who played Tribbiani was announced as a host of Top Gear, both of which are co-hosted by The Stig?--Launchballer 14:51, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Launchballer, please stop introducing hooks which are clearly much too long and have no singular focus.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 17:29, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, that should've said "after The Getaway Car", however ALT3, terminated at "his own series" would work as a hook:
ALT4... that The Getaway Car was described as "the worst TV spin-off since Joey Tribbiani got his own series"?--Launchballer 18:41, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
  • With negative statements like that, it's probably best to not phrase the sentence passively. Let's activate it:
this is my first ever comment on a DYK review procedure - but I must say that I don't see any problem with the ALT 5 proposal there. Hope that's helpful. Happy monsoon day 20:56, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
@Happymonsoonday1: hello! It's always good to have new blood coming in to help with DYK! Welcome to the process! I do have a question though: was your comment meant as a check to send this nomination onwards? If so, please consider adding a {{DYKtick}}. That's usually how we do things at DYK.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 21:39, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
OK, it is done. The only reason I didn't add a tick is that this is my first day at school, so I didn't know I was allowed to put my hand up. I read through some others and this process is highly involved.Happy monsoon day 19:51, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
