This template provides the header row and references (if required) for the Episode Details template. The DoctorWhoEpisodeBody template provides the functionality for the episode rows.

An anchor named Doctor Who episode head is created for use in redirects from episode titles, e.g. The Cave of Skulls, so that links formed as e.g. An Unearthly Child#Doctor Who episode head will to the top of the episode list, regardless of the preceding section heading.

For Doctor Who serials, the following code may be added for the references. These are online sources which may be suitable to provide sourcing for the information that this table can present. Other sources can also be used

{{cite web
|url= http://gallifreyone.com/episode.php?id=<Production code>

|date = 2007-03-31

{{cite web

{{cite web

|title= {{PAGENAME}}

|accessdate =

The three sites are "Outpost Gallifrey" (aka Gallifreyone), "Doctor Who Reference Guide", and "A Brief History of Time Travel". However Gallifreyone is no longer extant and an archived version will should be sought to avoid introducing a dead link.

For the links to work, <Production code> needs to be replaced with the production code that the serial was produced under. All 3 sites use this in the URL for the page for the specific serial.

NOTE: The sites are inconsistent with the use of capital and lower case letters for the production code.

{{PAGENAME}} is used with the "title" listing as a default. If the article title has a dab suffix, the title of the serial should replace this.

Accessdate should be the date the website was checked at the time the reference is added.
