This template must be substituted.

 |    article2          =
 | overview             = An outline of the dispute, with diffs if appropriate

 |    alttitle          = Alternative title for the thread

}}

The |overview=, |user1= and |user2= parameters are required. All other parameters are optional. There is no need for editors to include their signatures with ~~~~, as this is done automatically.

Examples[edit]

  1. Simple dispute over involving one article and two users: {{subst:NewDRNsubmission | article= | overview= | user1= | user2= | resolutionsteps= |howwecanhelp= }}
  2. Dispute involving two articles and four users, with a clarification of the users' positions: {{subst:NewDRNsubmission | article= | article2= | overview= | user1= | user2= | user3= | user4= | usercomment= | resolutionsteps= |howwecanhelp= }}
  3. Complex dispute involving five articles and ten users, with a custom thread name: {{subst:NewDRNsubmission | article= | article2= | article3= | article4= | article5= | alttitle= | overview= | user1= | user2= | user3= | user4= | user5= | user6= | user7= | user8= | user9= | user10= | usercomment= | resolutionsteps= |howwecanhelp= }}

Parameters[edit]

Parameter How to use When to use
|article= The title of the main article the dispute is about. It can also be a page in another namespace; in this case, please include the full title including the namespace, e.g. Wikipedia:Example. If the dispute is purely between users, then this parameter can be omitted.

The title should be written in plain text, with no wikilinks or other formatting. If |alttitle= is not set, this will be used as the title of the thread (along with any pages listed in |article2=, |article3=, etc.). If this parameter is not set, the usernames of the editors involved will be used as the title of the thread.

When the dispute involves articles or other Wikipedia pages
|article2= This may be used if the dispute involves multiple articles; it goes up to |article8=. If there are more than eight articles, the submitter should leave a note about them in the overview of the dispute.

The article names should be written with the same capitalization as they would in normal text. For example, spore should be in lowercase, but the first letter of Spore (2008 video game) should be in uppercase. This ensures that the section headings use the correct capitalization.

When the dispute involves multiple articles
|overview= The outline of the dispute. This can be as long as the submitter wants, but submitters are recommended to keep the overview short and to-the-point. It is possible to include wikilinks, diffs, and URLs in this field. Required
|user1= The username of the first user involved in the dispute. It should not be in wiki markup (no ~~~~ or [[ ]]) and User: should not be included). If this is left blank the submitter's username will be included automatically. Required, although if left blank the submitter's username will be used
|user2= The username of the second user involved in the dispute. Again, it should not be in wiki markup and User: should not be included. As with user1, if this is left blank then the submitter's name will be used automatically. Required, although if left blank the submitter's username will be used
|user3= The username of the third user involved in the dispute. As many as 20 users may be listed, each under separate parameters (up to |user20=). When the dispute involves more than two users
|usercomment= This is a space for comments about the users involved in the dispute, for example if one user is only involved indirectly. It is possible to use wikilinks and other formatting in this parameter. If the submitter wants to clarify the nature of other users' involvement
|resolutionsteps= The steps taken to resolve the issue so far. The dispute should at least have been discussed on the article talk page before it is posted at the dispute resolution noticeboard. It is possible to use wikilinks and other formatting in this parameter. Recommended
|howwecanhelp= What the submitter expects to get from the dispute resolution process. This helps to clarify the intentions of the submitter and is helpful for mediators to understand what kind of resolution might be helpful. It is possible to use wikilinks and other formatting in this parameter. Recommended
|alttitle= This specifies a different title for the thread. It replaces the automatic title generated from the article names or the usernames of the editors involved. This can be useful if the dispute involves many pages or if the page names cannot accurately reflect the nature of the dispute. If the dispute is complex or involves many articles
