USS West Virginia (BB-48)

A small launch rescues an overboard seaman alongside the burning battleship USS West Virginia, which was heavily damaged in the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. USS Tennessee is in the background, moored alongside. Completely rebuilt by 1944, West Virginia went on to participate in the Battles of Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa before being decommissioned in 1947 and struck in 1959.
