Senescallus Scotie. (c. 1220–1282) First to use new title Steward of Scotland. Called Alexander of Dundonald perhaps because he was born there.  Defeated Haakon IV of Norway at Largs in October 1263.
Senescallus Scotie. (c. 1260–1309. First to use surname Stewart (Jacobus Senescallus.) Supported Robert de Brus (known as the Competitor) in his claim for the throne in 1291 and his grandson Robert the Bruce on his enthronement in 1306.
Senescallus Scotie. (c. 1296–1327). Commander of a brigade at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and was knighted after the battle. Married the king's daughter, Marjory. Witnessed the entailment of the succession to the throne at a parliament in December 1318. Died at Bathgate Castle on 9 April 1327.
