Template:R to article without mention

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

When used with the "This is a redirect" (Redr) template:

Template {{This is a redirect}} may be used to add from one to seven rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation page below.

When used by itself:

  • This is a redirect to an article without any mention of the redirected word or phrase. For more information follow the bold category link.
    • For titles that are obvious omissions from target articles, check the index for more specific rcats to use instead, e.g., {{R typo}} for misspellings of article titles, {{R from unsuitable title}}, etc.

Purpose[edit]

This template is used to populate a "container" category that should remain empty. If another more specific template cannot be found to tag a redirect, then there are two options:

  1. Look for other solutions such as to find a way to mention the redirect title in the article, or to find and retarget to another article (a better target) where the redirect title is mentioned or can be added, etc.
  2. Tag the redirect with this template.

Usage[edit]

Use this rcat template on mainspace redirects only.
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]

{{Redr|to article without mention}}
Template {{Redr}} is an alias for the This is a redirect template, which may be used to add up to seven appropriate rcats, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page and its comparison page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]

{{R to article without mention}}
This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
  • Use this rcat to tag a redirect to an article in which the redirect's page name is not mentioned. Exceptions to the use of this template are titles that are obvious omissions from target articles. Check the index for more specific rcats to use instead when they apply, e.g., {{R from unsuitable title}}, {{R typo}} for misspellings of article titles, etc. To clarify, if a redirect is a typo then it would not be expected to be included in the target article, so redirects tagged with R typo should not be tagged with R to article without mention.
