This template is for use with Slavic (Russian, Polish, etc.) names that use the Cyrillic alphabet or other non-Western European characters, but which are commonly transliterated in plain Western European characters (e.g. "ł" simplified to "l", or Cyrillic entirely converted to ISO-Latin-1 approximations. In cases of the former, the article is often but not always named with the Western European simpification, and in the latter is always named with the Western European approximate transliteration. This template is suitable for any such case.
