Usage

Please note: This template categorizes pages using assessment grades and importance through built-in transclusion. An article's assessment is generated from the class and importance parameters in the {{WikiProject Psychology |class= |importance=}} banner on its talk page. This template should be transcluded and not substituted (subst) because it employs conditional code. Transclusion also allows easy updating of all the Project's talk pages without having to edit hundreds of pages.

Quality

An article's quality assessment is generated from the class parameter in the {{WikiProject Psychology}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject Psychology|class=???}}

The following values may be used for the class parameter to describe the quality of the article (see Wikipedia:Quality scale for assessment criteria):

FA (for featured articles only; adds articles to Category:FA-Class psychology articles) Featured article FA
A (adds articles to Category:A-Class psychology articles) A-Class article A
GA (for good articles only; adds articles to Category:GA-Class psychology articles)  GA
B (adds articles to Category:B-Class psychology articles) B-Class article B
C (adds articles to Category:C-Class psychology articles) C-Class article C
Start (adds articles to Category:Start-Class psychology articles) Start-Class article Start
Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class psychology articles) Stub-Class article Stub
FL (for featured lists only; adds articles to Category:FL-Class psychology articles) Featured list FL
List (adds articles to Category:List-Class psychology articles)  List

For pages that are not articles, the following values can also be used for the class parameter:

Category (for categories; adds pages to Category:Category-Class psychology articles) Category page Category
Disambig (for disambiguation pages; adds pages to Category:Disambig-Class psychology articles) Disambiguation page Disambig
Draft (for drafts; adds pages to Category:Draft-Class psychology articles)  Draft
File (for files; adds pages to Category:File-Class psychology articles)  File
Portal (for portal pages; adds pages to Category:Portal-Class psychology articles)  Portal
Project (for project pages; adds pages to Category:Project-Class psychology articles)  Project

??? (articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unassessed psychology articles)  ???

Importance

An article's importance assessment is generated from the importance parameter in the {{WikiProject Psychology}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject Psychology|importance=???}}

The following values may be used for the importance parameter to describe the relative importance of the article within the project:

Top (adds articles to Category:Top-importance psychology articles)  Top
High (adds articles to Category:High-importance psychology articles)  High
Mid (adds articles to Category:Mid-importance psychology articles)  Mid
Low (adds articles to Category:Low-importance psychology articles)  Low
NA (adds articles to Category:NA-importance psychology articles)  NA
??? (articles for which a valid importance rating has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unknown-importance psychology articles  ???

The importance parameter should be assigned according to the importance scale below.

Optional parameters

  • attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention.
  • class – see the project's quality scale for details.
  • importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details.
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Sigmund Freud, use |listas=Freud, Sigmund so that the talk page will show up in the F's and not the S's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people#Ordering names in a category.
It is not required if another WikiProject template on the same page has its own |listas= set, since it not only affects categories used by the banner in which it is set, but it also affects the sortkey of all other banners and templates.
  • needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • small – set |small=yes to display a small version of the template aligned along the right side of the page (as opposed to at the top). This parameter does not work as expected if the banner template is enclosed in {{WikiProjectBannerShell}} or {{WikiProjectBanners}}.
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
