Which picture for nav-box?[edit]

Which picture do people prefer for this navigation box: Saint Peters as is currently used (File - StPetersBasilicaEarlyMorning.jpg), or the Papal insignia, or perhaps some other image? --Zfish118 talk 02:09, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

  • Saint Peters is my preference, as it illustrates both an important site in Catholicism, Saint Peter's Basilica itself; Vatican City where the basilica is located which comments on the Church's standing in international affairs; the tomb of Saint Peter (who is taught to be the first Pope) which is beneath the basilica; the modern Papacy which continues to use the church; as well as an example of the type building used to celebrate mass by Catholics worldwide. The Papal Coat of Arms would seem more appropriate for an article that focus solely on Papal matters. --Zfish118 talk 02:09, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Saint Peters for the reasons pointed out by Zfish118, and also since Saint Peters may be more recognizable for people, both outside and inside and outside the Church.Happy Squirrel (talk) 02:21, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Saint Peters. It is visually more recognizable – its a unique domed building. It is something substantive unlike an insignia or a coat of arms. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 12:19, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
  • A new view of Saint Peters – IMO it would be great to change to an image with people included. A search at Category - Events in Saint Peter's Square shows some possible substitutes.

There may be other (and better) suggestions available. Searching at commons here. Regards,  JoeHebda (talk)  16:14, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
  • I think the Basilica in the morning is a better photo but I like the people (i.e. united in fellowship of the mystical body) in St. Peter's Square above. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 20:43, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
  • I tend to agree. Any new photo should be of professional quality. --Zfish118 talk 20:42, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

* Keep (second vote): – The Correctus2kX - Revision as of 22:53, 21 January 2016 with no image best fits with similar WP Catholiism articles.  JoeHebda (talk)  13:14, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

I am confused as to what you are trying to say. I NEVER added as an illustration to this template, and @Alistair Wettin: appears to have withdrawn his own image edit during the same batch of edits. --Zfish118 talk 17:35, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
Note, someone has removed the images, but this list still erroneously attributes as an edit I made. --Zfish118talk 18:21, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
This last one has better symmetry and, in my opinion, the best one out of those above. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 12:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
  • For clarity, let us please keep the discussion under one heading (preferably continuing the existing conversation under "Which picture for nav-box?"). Also, perhaps give the file name, as I am not sure which image is the "last one". --Zfish118 talk 18:17, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Idea: – Rather than having each editor continuing to change the image to their favorite, can we choose several more images? On one website that I webmastered (years ago) we had a javascript that displayed an image (all same size) for each day of the week. Don't know if that will work with Wikipedia wikicode. If we can find 7 images & get this to work, it could be a good solution that would eliminate ongoing updates. If another more experienced editor knows of a way to setup? Otherwise I could take this idea to Village Pump-Technical. Regards,  JoeHebda (talk)  19:39, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

I don't believe that that really fits the purpose of this template, which is to consistently identify Catholic-related articles as part of the same series. The current image has been in use for at least the past seven years, and baring a plainly higher-quality image becoming available, I do not see any particular reason to change it. --Zfish118talk 20:39, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
Zfish118 – Wondering why this discussion "Which picture for nav-box?" is introduced if StPetersBasilicaEarlyMorning.jpg image is satisfactory for 7 years? Is it because there has not yet been a consensus and closure? And the image is being changed with good faith edits? Or by newer contributors (like myself).  JoeHebda (talk)  11:07, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
I started the discussion due to a somewhat nasty exchange in the edit summaries. Someone changed the image, I changed it back. He changed it again. I reverted and started this discussion (only to get accused of reverting without explanation, of course). Others coincidentally started changing it, too, and several others have been reverting, and only a few have been discussing. I am really uncertain as to why it has suddenly become an issue.--Zfish118talk 18:55, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
But even so, if a new professional quality image became available, I would not oppose its consideration. --Zfish118talk 22:44, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Update: Sidebar with collapsible lists[edit]

Greetings, Some of the articles that are in this template list are missing this RC template. In order to better fit the template into smaller sections, I updated with collapsible for a better fit. Regards,  JoeHebda (talk)  19:53, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

WithdrawnTemplate:Catholic Church sidebartemplate:Roman Catholicism – This template is associated with Category:Roman Catholic Church, and the template name should remain as such for consistency [this proposal is to revert the name change]. --Zfish118talk 18:26, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

  • Oppose. Per above. Chicbyaccident (talk) 10:57, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
  • Oppose per above, and because the new name removes the continual question of "am I adding the sidebar or the navbox??" Jujutsuan (talk | contribs) 05:37, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
  • Oppose: they are two different types or categories of things: Catholic Church is an organization but Roman Catholicism is an intangible. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 16:15, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Add border around sidebar[edit]

I propose adding a border around the sidebar. At present, the template can blend into pages due to the fact that most of the content is concealed within collapsed lists and the template as a whole isn't that striking. It's mostly blank space (again due more than half of it consisting of collapsed lists). Adding a border around the edges would make the sidebar pop out more and clearly delineate it as separate and distinct from the article text. This is already done with {{Sidebar person}}. I have added this to the sandbox here. Ergo Sum 02:27, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Edit request, 28 March 2019[edit]

Please remove "Catholic Church and Pandeism", which appears to place this alleged topic on a par with Islam and Judaism. 2600:8800:1880:FC:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 23:33, 27 March 2019 (UTC) UTC)

  • Note, please, above IP is now blocked for misconduct. See Talk:Catholic Church and Pandeism for well-participated consensus this article is fine as it is. There is no sort of rule that everything in the template must be of equivalent importance. Next person could come along insisting the Judaism page be removed on the claim of Islam being more important under current demographics. We need more of these, not fewer.  Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. — Newslinger talk 09:33, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
