What is this template for?[edit]

Category:Electronics companies of Japan is already there. What is this template for? There needs to be a clear definition of which companies/brands should and shouldn't be in the template.--Krtek2125 20:15, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. This template is a mess, as it includes brands (e.g. National) and parent companies (e.g. Panasonic). I think brands and also companies that has long since exited the electronics market (e.g. Sega) shouldn't be listed. I think this template needs to be updated in addition to this article --Aizuku (talk) 05:24, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Possible updated template[edit]

I still think it needs to be simpler, maybe categorize companies, since there are more specialized companies like Nikon and Nintendo, and diversified companies like Sony and Toshiba. --12:02, 11 October 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aizuku (talkcontribs)

The following is just an idea, a hint of how it should be, the categories are not final, only meant as an illustration:

In this example I've listed some companies more than once, where valid, I'm not sure if this is for the best or not.

Removed and added a few links[edit]

Removed Technics, Quasar and National since they are Panasonic brands, removed Buffalo since it redirects to Melco. Added JVC Kenwood Holdings. I think sub-brands of a company shouldn't be listed. --Aizuku (talk) 08:14, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Commented Minolta out, there is already an entry for Konica Minolta, and Konica didn't exist on the template before. It was only logical. --Aizuku (talk) 12:51, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Please remove B2B companies[edit]

The current template includes Business-to-business companies. The products of Advantest, Horiba, Tokyo Electron, and Yokogawa Electric are definitely not consumer electronics, so they should be removed. I support Aizuku's proposal. --Shinkansen Fan (talk) 17:01, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

I agree with you B2B companies shouldn't be included. If no one minds I'm gonna go ahead and remove B2B companies --Aizuku (talk) 12:25, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
This website may be a good source: Members of Association for Eletric Home Appliances. In addition to the companies that you have listed above, I think the following members of this organization are notable:
* Cooking: Zojirushi Corporation, Tiger Corporation
* HVAC: Corona Corporation (TYO: 5909), Daikin, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
* Audio: TEAC
