Different kinds of spiciness[edit]

This might be a big change, but I think this template should distinguish between the spiciness of peppers (caused by capsaicin) and the spiciness of horseradish and mustard (caused by various organosulfur compounds), which is quite different. But what should the icon be? Everyone recognizes a chile pepper, but how many people recognize a mustard seed or a wasabi root? —Keenan Pepper 17:17, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Prob keep the same image, just have different criteria. --PopUpPirate 21:53, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removal[edit]

I suggest we remove this template, in almost all the pages it is used on the pepper score is really random. Sure there are 'hot' dishes but how hot a certain dish is completely depends on the preference of the chef/supermarket/housewife in question. --62.251.90.73 20:33, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Actually, it goes off Scoville rating --PopUpPirate 21:52, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yeah i figure that but there is no objective way to give a certain dish a scoville rating... --62.251.90.73 00:02, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Ah now the template is removed from all the dishes, and it only remains at the pages of the spices itself. Way better, can live with it now. --62.251.90.73 22:22, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scoville rating on the template[edit]

I'd very nearly proposed the six images for deletion before I found this page. As it stands currently, within the articles the template gives absolutely no indication that the ratings are based off of the scoville scale. I'm going to go through each of the inclusions now to make it explicit, but ideally the template would automatically ask for a scoville rating, even a rough one, to prevent accusations of original research GeeJo (t)(c) • 17:18, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adding the Scoville Rating as a template argument would definitely be a good idea. -- Bovineone 06:47, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Other suggestion : adding the same color pattern as in the Scoville scale article. zubrowka74 16:43, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would also suggest adjusting the width to fit the taxobox. zubrowka74 16:54, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Above peak?[edit]

What does "above peak" mean in the Heat param for this template, as it appears e.g. in the article for capsaicin itself? Is there a source for this? Shiggity (talk) 23:51, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's been exactly two years to the day since I asked this question and I still don't know. Shiggity (talk) 23:27, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Image size?[edit]

Is there any way to adjust the image size in the infobox? Illegitimate Barrister (talk) 06:45, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Working on changes[edit]

On a few of the pepper pages I noticed that there were requests to add cultivar infoboxes; there is already the pepper infobox though; so I created Template:Infobox pepper/sandbox (haven't updated the documentation) and Template:Infobox pepper/testcases to add in the cultivar infobox information to the pepper infobox, as well as change the heat scale graphic to be objectively tied to the scoville scale listing as according to the current infobox documentation. Falconjh (talk) 17:52, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Peak and Above Peak are currently included in the recent sandbox; this talk page suggest that might not be the optimal design consideration. Other design consideration is that this infobox is used for some Hot sauces as well, does the pepper scale as listed really make sense for Hot Sauce? A remapping might be in order if this template is used on a hot sauce. Falconjh (talk) 05:15, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Peppers[edit]

Previously, PopUpPirate produced a pile of pictures of peppers to place below the primary pepper pictures to pigeonhole peppers proportionally according to people's picante perception. Of pleasantly perfect proportions those pepper pictures were. But presently, people prevailingly prefer PNG for puny pictures perhaps because the pixels of PNG preserve pinpoint-perfect parts more precisely than pixels of JPG. Perhaps we present people could proffer private opinions on the preferable presentation of the pixel-perfect pepper pictures? Soap 16:59, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
