'RISC OS Open' and 'Community'[edit]

Thanks a lot for your corrections - I knew someone would find a few errors. TBH I got a bit sick of looking at the thing.

Anyway, you've made a fair comment. I've initially included both 'RISC OS Open' and 'Community', in case there's a need for a significant distinction between when ROOL started work on cleaning out swear words etc. (and other more meaningful changes) and when Joe Bloggs gained access for submitting developments. The current timeline's a starting point, and probably won't stay in the current format for long! Also, you've probably also seen the parallel timeline for version releases (WIP), which I'm thinking of overlaying at some point. The OS labels to the right could then possibly be removed. Of course, if this combination looks pants then the idea can be dropped. Please feel free to have a play in my user space if you're bored! Cheers. --trevj (talk) 08:05, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

NCOS[edit]

I think it's getting a bit chaotic, it says only 'NC' which doesn't really help. Also, ROL and Pace started work back in 1999. I think the time might be better spent finding refs for NCOS work so we can add a text section to the page first.--Flibble (talk) 00:37, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

NCOS starts from about 95/96 for the Network Computer project, as such predates Pace by a fair bit. It was used on various STB products http://acorn.chriswhy.co.uk/Computers/NetStation.html . I believe it branched from RISC OS 3.60 and was called RISC OS 3.61 before being named after the NC http://acorn.chriswhy.co.uk/Computers/OM_STB20.html, but would have to refind the reference for that. There was also a reference somewhere to it being merged back into the HEAD whilst at Pace. By the time it was on the Bush STB at Pace it was known as RISC OS-NC http://acorn.chriswhy.co.uk/AfterAcorn/BushInternet.html and RO-STB http://acorn.chriswhy.co.uk/AfterAcorn/Pace_DSL4000.html. Follow up to your other bits, Galileo was a completely different OS from RISC OS/NCOS, it was a microkernel based OS that was intended to replace RISC OS, not sure if it actually got further than the press releases.
