Fictional voters[edit]
At this point the official figures are published, but for some reason they are only listed by canton and nobody has done sums at the national level yet. Except for de-wiki. It appears that the sums were done by de:User:So-Gast.
It must be noted that what is listed as "Votes" are not actual votes, but a statistical artefact. The reason is that there are no "national elections" in Switzerland. There are 26 separate cantonal elections taking place at the same time, and the official results are cantonal results. In every canton, every voter gets as many votes as there are seats of that canton in the National Council. Thus, somebody who lives in Zurich gets 34 votes, and somebody who lives in Uri gets one singe vote. To get a national overview, each cantonal number of vote is divided by the number of votes per voter in that canton. This obviously results in non-integer numbers of "votes" (but in the total sum of 2,410,125, you get the actual number of people who voted). The "Votes" listed in the table are the sum of these figures, rounded to the nearest integer. --dab (𒁳) 06:51, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- Indeed, one ballot gives X votes, where X is the number of seats the canton has in the National Council (that depends on its population). The correct formula for the number of "fictional voters" for canton X is the following: number of votes obtain by party A * number of valid ballot / number of valid votes. Note that number of valid votes / number of valid ballot is usually just under the number of seats a canton has in the National Council. Orgyn (talk) 20:14, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Incorrect values[edit]
All values seem to be incorrect compared to the ones provided by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, I will correct them. Source: http://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/portal/fr/index/themen/17/02/blank/data/05/03.html, second Excel document (su-f-17.02.03.03.zb.2011.k). Orgyn (talk) 20:14, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, I've corrected the values and made some changes.
- Alternative Left includes Party of Labour and solidaritéS.
- As said before, the values represent fictional voters meaning the values are rounded and there are precision errors (if you sum up all the votes you will not get the exact total amount).
- I removed the ref that said that the PCS member was going to join the same parliamentary group of the PDC, we can specify this somewhere else (along with the groups of every party that has less than 5 seats).
- I also removed the ref that talked about two PDC members having the same number of votes because it doesn't change the final result. Orgyn (talk) 23:26, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
