The Ariel East and Ariel West are a pair of apartment buildings on Broadway at 99th Street that are known for being the tallest buildings on Manhattan's predominantly residential Upper West Side.

Controversy

Construction of the Ariel stirred intense controversy in the upscale residential neighborhood that had believed zoning laws precluded the construction of buildings over 16 stories in height.[1][2]
