The IIconics (formerly The Iconic Duo) are an Australian professional wrestling tag team consisting of real life friends Jessica McKay (Billie Kay) and Cassie McIntosh (Peyton Royce), currently signed to WWE, performing on the SmackDown brand where they are the current WWE Women's Tag Team Champions in their first reign.[3][4]

Prior to their WWE debut, McIntosh and McKay previously wrestled in Pro Wrestling Women's Alliance in Australia. Both women attended Westfields Sports High School and were trained by Madison Eagles.[5]

History[edit]

Pro Wrestling Women's Alliance[edit]

Before forming as a team, Royce (as KC Cassidy) and McKay wrestled each other at Pro Wrestling Women's Alliance (PWWA) throughout their careers including a title match for the PWWA Championship.[6][7]

WWE[edit]

NXT (2016–2018)[edit]

The team made their original debut on October 5, 2016 episode of NXT and were later dubbed The Iconic Duo.[8] During their time in NXT, the team feuded with several women like Liv Morgan, Nikki Cross, Aliyah, Ruby Riott, Ember Moon and even then NXT Women's champion Asuka, they also received a NXT Year-End Award for "Breakout of the Year" in 2016 and were both nominated for "Female Competitor(s) of the Year" in 2017, though they were unsuccessful at winning the award.[9]

SmackDown (2018–present)[edit]

Kay and Royce, now known as The IIconics,[10][11][12] debuted on the April 10, 2018 episode of SmackDown Live, attacking SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair, allowing Carmella to cash in her Money in the Bank contract and defeat Flair to win the championship.[13][14][15] The following week on SmackDown Live, The IIconics picked up their first main roster victory by defeating Asuka and Becky Lynch.[16]

In 2019, The IIconics entered their first Royal Rumble match at the eponymous event, eliminating Nikki Cross before being eliminated by Lacey Evans. They participated in the first female tag team Elimination Chamber match at Elimination Chamber to determine the inaugural holders of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, eliminating Naomi and Carmella before being eliminated by Nia Jax and Tamina.[17] In March, The IIconics started a feud with Banks and Bayley, whom they defeated in a non–title match.[18] Because of their win, they were announced as one of the three teams that would challenge Banks and Bayley for the championship at WrestleMania 35 in a fatal four–way match.[19][20][21] At the event on April 7, The IIconics won the Women's Tag Team Championship after Kay pinned Bayley.[22] Two days later on SmackDown, in their first title defence, The IIconics defeated two enhancement talents.[23]

Other media[edit]

Kay and Royce made their video game debut in WWE 2K18 and its sequel WWE 2K19.[24]
