"For the love of money is the root of all evil" is a sentence in the Bible's First Epistle to Timothy (1 Timothy 6:10, KJV).

Root of all evil may refer to:

1 Timothy 6:10 New International Version (NIV) 10 "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." Either way It is the "love of money" that has existed from the beginning. This love of money is the love of having more of X in order to have more of Y which belongs to another person. Hence the "love of money" is most likely the act of coveting.
