This is a timeline of the War in Donbass, for August 2017. The timeline follows an ongoing conflict between Ukraine and anti-government pro-Russian separatists supported by Russian troops[1] in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.

Timeline[edit]

1 August[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 18 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 5 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 2 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 11 occasions in Luhansk region[2]).[3][4][5][6] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that five Ukrainian soldiers were wounded and injured in the Donbass region on 31 July.[2] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 56 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 13 different locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and heavy artillery.[7] In the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, local officials reported eight Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian military used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles and 122 mm self-propelled artillery to engage pro-Russian positions at Sokolniki, Pervomaisk, Dovhe, Lohvynove and Zholobok.[8]

According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 10 occasions. In the surroundings of Donetsk city and Horlivka, one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded while facing the attack of pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles at Luhanske at around 1:00 am. Ukrainian redoubts there also became the target of small arms and heavy machine guns. In the region of Mariupol, Ukrainian troops at Vodiane and Novotroitske received harassment fire, while in the northern sector of the demarcation line, 82 mm mortar volleys landed in Krymske.[9][10] Later in the evening, the separatist fired BM-21 "Grad" multiple rocket launchers at Vodiane.[11][12]

2 August[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 34 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 13 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 9 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 12 occasions in Luhansk region[13]).[14][15][16][17][18] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and two others were wounded in the Donbass region on the first day of August.[13] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 54 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 18 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, tanks and heavy artillery. Ukrainian tanks engaged pro-Russian redoubts around Donetsk city, supported by small arms, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. The Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars to attack pro-Russian troops in five different areas the regions of Mariupol and Horlivka. Armoured fighting vehicles damaged two civilian residences at Dokuchaievsk. One pro-Russian soldier was wounded in action.[19][20] Local authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded ten Ukrainian violations of the truce inside the republic boundaries. The Ukrainian army pounded pro-Russian positions at Kalynove, Frunze, Pervomaisk, Khristove, Almazna and Lozove with small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles.[21]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 7:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 5 occasions. In the northern section of the demarcation line, rebel forces fired antitank rockets, antitank guided missiles and 82 mm mortars at Prychepylivka and Krymske, while 82 mm mortar volleys also landed in Troitske and Katerinivka. At dusk, grenade launchers were fired at Novooleksandrivka and Novozvanivka. Later in the evening, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles opened fire on Ukrainian redoubts at Vodiane, supported by 82 mm mortar fire. Nearby Lebedinske was shelled with 122 mm self-propelled artillery, and small arms fire was reported at Shyrokyne and Pavlopil. In the outskirts of Donetsk city, Avdiivka was pounded by small arms and rocket launchers. Ukrainian forces there returned fire.[22][23][24][25] In the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic, one female civilian resident was injured at Donetskyi by 120 mm mortar fire.[26]

3 August[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 30 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 11 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 9 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 10 occasions in Luhansk region[27]).[28][25][29][30] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 2 August.[27] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 77 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 14 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and tanks. in the area of Donetsk, Ukrainian tanks engaged pro-Russian positions supported by small arms, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. In the region of Mariupol, five settlements became the target of small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. In the area of Horlivka, the Ukrainian army fired small arms and automatic grenade fire. Two separatist soldiers were wounded.[31][32]  In the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, local officials recorded 10 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire, The Ukrainian military used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to attack pro-Russian redoubts at Kalynove, Kalinivka, Sokolniki, Donetskyi, Slavyanoserbsk, Pervomaisk and Lohvynove. One civilian was wounded at Donetskyi.[33]

According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 5 occasions. In the outskirts of Donetsk city and Horlivka, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Butivka mining complex, supported by heavy machine gun and antitank rocket fire. Rocket propelled grenades landed in Avdiivka and Luhanske. In the region of Mariupol, the rebels fired heavy machine guns and rocket launchers at Ukrainian positions near Vodiane. Separatist forces also fired small arms and grenade launchers at Ukrainian redoubts around Stanytsia Luhanska, Novooleksandrivka and Novotoshkivke, in the northern sector of the demarcation line.[34][35][36] Ukrainian antiaircraft artillery shot down a pro-Russian drone over Pryazovia, on the sea of Azov coast.[37] The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine reported that ten of their members had encountered small arms fire at Donetsk Filtration Station at around 03:00 pm.[38][39][40]

4 August[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 21 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 9 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 3 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 9 occasions in Luhansk region[41]).[42][36][43][44][45] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 3 August.[41] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 50 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 15 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm artillery.[46] Ukrainian forces shelled the area of Volvo Center and Zhabicheve, north of Donetsk city, with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars.[47] In the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, local officials reported eleven Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian military used small arms, heavy machine guns, 73 mm recoilless antitank rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to engage pro-Russian positions at Kalynove, Pervomaisk, Krasny Liman, Kalinivka, Lozove, Slavyanoserbsk and Knyaz Igor memorial. The same sources recorded 57 Ukrainian violations of the truce over the past seven weeks, two less than a week before.[48]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 8 occasions, one Ukrainian soldier was wounded. Rebel forces in the northern section of the demarcation line fired 82 mm mortars at Ukrainian positions near Novooleksandrivka and Donetz, while in the outskirts of Donetsk city, Avdiivka became the target of small arms, rocket launchers and mortars, while in the region of Mariupol, antitank rockets landed in Lebedinske Ukrainian forces returned fire.[49][50] One Ukrainian serviceman was killed and five others were injured by the accidental explosion of ammunition during drills in the Kyiv region.[51]

5 August[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 38 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 15 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 8 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 15 occasions in Luhansk region[52]).[53][50][54][55] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that three Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in the Donbass region on 4 August.[52] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 50 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 15 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, tanks and heavy artillery. Ukrainian tanks engaged pro-Russian redoubts around Donetsk city, supported by small arms, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery.[56] Ukrainian mortars and artillery shelled Donetsk city using 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, 122 mm and 152 mm guns, while in the region of Mariupol Ukrainian troops fired small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. Ukrainian armoured fighting vehicles opened fire on pro-Russian positions around Horlivka, supported by small arms fire.[57] According to authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on nine occasions within the republic boundaries. The Ukrainian military engaged on pro-Russian positions at Kalynove, Pervomaisk, Lozove, Krasny Yar and Sokolniki with small arms, machine guns, rocket launchers, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoillesss rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles.[58]

According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 6 occasions. West of Donetsk city, rebel forces fired light weapons on Ukrainian positions at Avdiivka, while rocket propelled grenades landed in Vodiane, in the region of Mariupol. Antitank rockets were also fired at Ukrainian redoubts at Novooleksandrivka, in the northern sector of the demarcation line.[59][60] Later in the evening two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded by 82 mm mortar fire at Krymske,[61] one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded at Luhanske at around 10:00 pm.[62]

6 August[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 31 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 18 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 7 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 6 occasions in Luhansk region[63]).[62][64][65][66][67] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 5 August.[63] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 52 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 20 different locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and heavy artillery.[68]   According to local sources, Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on eight occasions within the boundaries of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic. The Ukrainian military used small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars to attack pro-Russian positions at Molodezhne, Zholobok, Kalynove, Slavyanoserbsk and Lohvynove.[69]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 5 occasions. In the outskirts of Donetsk city, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles opened fire on Ukrainian redoubts at Pisky, while Avdiivka became the target of heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. In the northern section of the demarcation line, 120 mm mortar rounds landed in Krymske.[70] One Ukrainian serviceman was wounded by shelling at Vodiane at around 6:00 pm, another Ukrainian serviceman was wounded at Novotroitske at around 10:00 pm.[71]

7 August[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 18 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 4 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 9 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 5 occasions in Luhansk region[72]).[71][73][74][75] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that three Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in the Donbass region on 6 August.[72] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 74 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 28 different locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and heavy artillery.[76] One pro-Russian soldier was killed in action.[77] In the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, local officials reported eight Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian military used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to attack pro-Russian positions at Prishib, Kalynove, Zholobok and Frunze.[78]

According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 3 occasions; one Ukrainian soldier was killed by a sniper bullet near Marinka, west of Donetsk city at around 1:00 pm. Rocket propelled grenades landed in nearby Nevelske. Shyrokyne, in the region of Mariupol, came under 120 mm mortar fire. Later in the night, Ukrainian marines in Chermalik, Talakivka, Vodiane and Novomyhailivka were harassed with antitank rockets and mortar fire. Also after evening, in the northern sector of the demarcation line, Krymske and Troikhizbenka became the target of 82 mm mortars, while Novotoshkivke was hit by 120 mm mortar fire.[79][80]

8 August[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 18 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 3 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 7 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 8 occasions in Luhansk region[81]).[82][83][84][85] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and two others were wounded in the Donbass region on 7 August.[81] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 36 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 17 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and heavy artillery.[86] One pro-Russian soldier was killed.[87] Local authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded seven Ukrainian violations of the truce inside the republic boundaries. The Ukrainian army pounded pro-Russian positions at Zholobok, Sokolniki, Slavyanoserbsk and Kalynove using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles.[88]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 4 occasions. West of Donetsk city, two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and five wounded in the vicinity of Marinka at around 4:00 am while returning fire on pro-Russian positions, in a weapon mishap. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Chermalyk, in the region of Mariupol. In the northern section of the demarcation line, 82 mm mortar volleys landed in Troitske, while rebel forces fired small arms and antitank rockets at Ukrainian positions near Novozvanivka. Armoured fighting vehicles shelled Zolote and Novooleksandrivka later in the evening.[89][90][91][92] One Ukrainian soldier was killed near Vodiane.[93]

9 August[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 28 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 4 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 9 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 11 occasions in Luhansk region[92]).[93][94][95] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that three Ukrainian soldiers were killed and nine others were wounded and injured in the Donbass region on 8 August.[92][96][97] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 48 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 21 different locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and heavy artillery.[98][99] Local authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded nine Ukrainian violations of the truce inside the republic boundaries. The Ukrainian army pounded pro-Russian positions at Kalynove, Molodezhne, Almazna, Lohvynoveand Zholobok using small arms, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles.[100]

According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on several occasions, including on 7 occasions in Luhansk region, in the northern sector of the demarcation line. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles shelled Ukrainian positions at Novozvanivka, supported by small arms, rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars. Rocket propelled grenades also landed in Novooleksandrivka and Novotoshkivke.[101][102]

10 August[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 15 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 2 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 7 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 7 occasions in Luhansk region[103]).[104][105][106][107] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was injured in the Donbass region on 9 August; the casualty was caused by shelling at Talakivka.[103] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 54 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 22 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm artillery.[108] According to local sources, Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on six occasions within the boundaries of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic. The Ukrainian military used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to attack pro-Russian positions at Zholobok, Molodezhne and Kalynove.[109]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 4 occasions. In the region of Mariupol, 82 mm mortar volleys struck Shyrokyne; this Ukrainian stronghold, along with Vodiane, became the target of small arms and grenade launchers later in the afternoon. Sniper fire was reported at nearby Talakivka. In the area around Donetsk city, Ukrainian troops at Maiorsk came under heavy machine gun fire. Novotoshkivke, in the northern sector of the demarcation line, was shelled with rocket launchers and mortars. One Ukrainian serviceman was wounded near Talakivka at around 8:00 am.[110][111][112] One Ukrainian serviceman was killed by explosion of unidentified explosive device at Pisky.[113]

11 August[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 15 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 1 occasion in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 7 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 7 occasions in Luhansk region[114]).[113][115][116] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian soldier was killed and another wounded in the Donbass region on 10 August.[114] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 33 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 15 different locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and heavy artillery.[117] During the past week, there were 342 Ukrainian violations of the truce, The Ukrainian military fired 1,632 rounds of mortar, tanks and artillery, weapons banned by the Minsk agreements. Six civilians were killed.[118] Officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire five times within the republic boundaries. Ukrainian forces employed small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to pound pro-Russian positions at Prishib, Kalynove, Zholobok, Slavyanoserbsk, Frunze and Lohvynove.[119] There were 49 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire during the last week, according to the same sources.[120]

According to the information provided by the ATO press-centre in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on five occasions. Avdiivka was the epicenter of rebel activity around Donetsk city throughout the day. The Ukrainian stronghold was fired at by small arms, rocket launchers and mortars. Ukrainian troops fired back. In the northern section of the demarcation line, the separatists launched antitank rockets at Novooleksandrivka and Krymske. Later in the evening, several locations along Bakhmutka road, including Shchastya, Syze and Stanytsia Luhanska came under mortar fire. Mortar barrages also hit Ukrainian positions at Lebedinske, in the region of Mariupol. Three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded, one at Avdiivka, another one was wounded at Krymske.[121][122][123][124]

12 August[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 20 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 5 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 6 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 9 occasions in Luhansk region[124]).[125][126][127] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO, Andriy Lysenko, reported at noon that six Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 11 August.[124] One Ukrainian soldier was killed and three others were wounded by explosions of explosive devices near Zaitseve and near Avdiivka, Lysenko added.[124] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 53 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 19 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm artillery.[128] Ukrainian tanks engaged pro-Russian redoubts around Donetsk city supported by 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Pro-Russian troops around Mariupol and Horlivka were attacked with small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and tanks. One pro-Russian soldier was killed and another wounded.[129] In the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic, local officials recorded nine Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire, Nyzhne Lozove, Frunze, Veselehorivka, Kalynove, Donetskyi and Zholobok came under small arms, 82 mm and 120 mm mortar fire.[130]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 4 occasions. In the surroundings of Donetsk city and Horlivka, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles, supported by small arms, heavy machine guns and antitank rocket launchers, attacked the Ukrainian stronghold of Novoluhanske, where civilian property and a gas pipeline were damaged. Nevelske became the target of small arms, grenade launchers and 120 mm mortars. In the region of Mariupol, antitank rockets and 120 mm mortar volleys landed in Pavlopil, while in the northern sector of the demarcation line, Krymske was hit by 120 mm mortar fire.[131][132][133][134] One Ukrainian serviceman was killed and another wounded at Vodiane later in the evening.[135]

13 August[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian forces had opened fire on 22 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 8 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, on 3 occasions in the region of Mariupol, and on 11 occasions in Luhansk region[263]).[264][265] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence on issues related to ATO, Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, reported at noon that three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 24 August.[263] One of the servicemen died of wounds shortly after midnight, Motuzyanyk later informed.[266][267] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city reported 37 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 15 locations using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and heavy artillery.[268] Ukrainian tanks engaged pro-Russian positions at Yasinuvata, Mineralne, Olenivka and Donetsk airport supported by 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled guns. Ukrainian tanks engaged for the second consecutive day pro-Russian redoubts at Spartak, while 82 mm and 120 mm volleys landed in 13 different areas around Donetsk city and Mariupol.[277][278] According to local sources, the Ukrainian military broke the ceasefire eight times within the borders of the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic.
