This is a timeline of the War in Donbass, for November 2016. The timeline follows an ongoing conflict between Ukraine and anti-government pro-Russian separatists supported by Russian troops[1] in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.

Timeline[edit]

1 November[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 36 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day, including on 17 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 10 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 9 occasions in Luhansk region.[2][3][4] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 31 October.[5] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city reported that the Ukrainian military opened fire on their positions on 755 occasions with small arms, rocket launchers, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles and tanks. The main targets were Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Gagarin mining complex, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Olenivka, Staromykhailivka, Dokuchaievsk, Yasne, Sakhanka, Leninske, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[6] According to sources from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, Ukrainian troops broke the truce twice, when they shelled Kalynivka with 120 mm mortars firing from Luhanske and harassed pro-Russian positions around Knyaz Igor from Stanytsia Luhanska with small arms fire.[7]

According to the information published by the ATO HQ on their Facebook page in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 24 occasions. Around Donetsk city and Horlivka, the Ukrainian strongholds of Avdiivka and Luhanske came under heavy machine gun, rocket propelled grenade and 82 mm mortar fire. The rebels also fired small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket launchers at Ukrainian troops in Krasnohorivka. In the region of Mariupol, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Shyrokyne, which also became the target of 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Mortar volleys of different caliber also landed in Lebedynske, Vodiane and Mykhailivka. The separatists pounded Pavlopil with small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket launchers. In the northern front, rocket propelled grenades landed in Lopaskyne and Stanytsia Luhanska. Pro-Russian forces shelled Krymske with 152 mm self-propelled artillery.[8]

2 November[edit]

The Ukrainian military reported 37 violations of the ceasefire by pro-Russian forces over the past 24 hours, including 27 in the region of Mariupol, seven around Donetsk city and three in the region of Luhansk.[9] Rebel troops attempting an assault on Ukrainian positions at Avdiivka were beaten off by the Ukrainian defenders during last night.[10][11] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and five others wounded in action in the Donbass region on the first day of November.[12] One Ukrainian serviceman was contused by mortar fire at Krymske the previous night.[13][14] Pro-Russian officials reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on 440 occasions using small arms, grenade launchers, armoured fighting vehicles, 120 mm mortars and 152 mm guns. The Ukrainian army attacked rebel positions at Shyroka Balka, Zaitseve, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Oleksandrivka, Staromykhailivka, Dokuchaievsk, Olenivka, Sakhanka, Leninske, Bezimenne, Kominternove and Petrovsky district.[15]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 25 occasions. Most incidents took place in the region of Mariupol, where rebel forces fired rocket propelled grenades and mortar volleys on Ukrainian troops at Taramchuk and Pavlopil. Small arms fire was reported at Shyrokyne. In the surroundings of Donetsk city, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian forces at Troitske with the support of mortar fire. Avdiivka became the target of small arms, heavy machine guns, rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars. West of Horlivka, the separatist attacked Novhorodske with small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, Ukrainian troops at Novooleksandrivka and Novozvanivka came under small arms fire, while rocket propelled grenades landed in Trokhizbenka. Krymske was struck by mortar fire.[16]

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko announced that henceforth no mobilized serviceman would be present on the frontline.[17]

3 November[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 47 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day, including on 26 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 8 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 13 occasions in Luhansk region.[18][19][20] An attempt of pro-Russian scouts to cross the demarcation line at Novozvanivka was beaten off by Ukrainian forces.[21] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in action in the Donbass region on 2 November. The casualty occurred in the region of Avdiivka.[22][23] Two volunteers of Aidar Battalion were killed and several wounded.[24] Pro-Russian sources in Donetsk city recorded 402 Ukrainian attacks on pro-Russian positions. The Ukrainian military employed small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and 152 mm howitzers. The targets were Shyroka Balka, Ozeryanivka, Zaitseve, Yasinuvata, Zhabicheve, Leninske, Kominternove, Sakhanka and Petrovsky district.[25] According to officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported seven Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire within the republic boundaries.The village of Smile was shelled by 152 mm slef-propelled artillery from Orekhove, while 82 mm and 120 mm volleys fell on pro-Russian positions around Knyaz Igor memorial. Ukrainian forces from Luhanske fired recoilless antitank rifles at rebel troops at Kalynivka, and nearby Kalinove came under automatic grenade launchers firing from Novozvanivka. Ukrainian artillery at Krymske shelled pro-Russian redoubts at Sokolniki with 122 mm artillery.[26]

Around Donetsk city, Avdiivka came under heavy fire from rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. North of Horlivka, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles shelled Ukrainian redoubts at Luhanske. In the region of Mariupol, rebel forces engaged Ukrainian troops at Talakivka, Shyrokyne, Lebedynske, Pavlopil, Bohdanivka and Vodiane with small arms, heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Rebel forces fired small arms and grenade launchers at Novozvanivka, Syze and Trokhizbenka, in the northern section of the demarcation line.[27]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 31 occasions on Ukrainian troops the previous day, including on 17 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 7 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, and on 7 occasions in Luhansk region.[28][29][30] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, Andriy Lysenko, reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and two others were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 3 November.[31] One wounded serviceman died of wounds in a hospital of Zaporizhia, Lysenko added.[32] Pro-Russian sources in Donetsk city recorded 3,810 attacks on their troops over the past week.[33] One pro-Russian soldier was wounded when Ukrainian troops from Luhanske fired small arms on the village of Lohvynove on two occasions, according to authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic.[34]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 20 occasions. In the region of Mariupol, the rebels fired small arms at Ukrainian troops in Pavlopil, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers at Novotroitske, mortars at Hnutove and 152 mm self-propelled artillery at Shyrokyne. In the outskirts of Donetsk city, Avdiivka, Kamyanka and Verkhnyotoretske came under small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire. The separatist also fired small arms and rocket propelled grenades upon Ukrainian forces at Krasnohorivka and Marinka. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, Ukrainian outposts at Novozvanivka and Troitske were pounded with heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and antitank guided missiles.[35]

5 November[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 38 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day, including on 25 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 8 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 5 occasions in Luhansk region.[36][37][38] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that five Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 4 November.[39] Pro-Russian sources reported that Ukrainian forces opened fired on 800 occasions on their troops. The Ukrainian military engaged the rebels with small arms, rocket launchers, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and 152 mm howitzers. Zaitseve, Verkhnyotoretske, Holmivskiy, Spartak, Yasinuvata, Olenivka, Dokuchaievsk, Bezimenne, Leninske, Sakhanka, Kominternove, Oktyabr and Petrovsky district.[40] In the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic, Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on three occasions, according to local sources. Lozove was shelled with 120 mm mortars from the Ukrainian stronghold of Svetlodarsk, while Kalinove came under small arms and 120 mm mortar fire from Novozvanivka and Novooleksandrivka.[41]

According to the information published by the ATO HQ on their Facebook page in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 23 occasions. In the area between Donetsk city and Horlivka, Ukrainian troops at Zaitseve, Verkhnyotoretske, Avdiivka and Luhanske became the target of small arms, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Ukrainian troops at Krasnohorivka were harassed with small arms and rocket propelled grenades. pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Talakivka and Shyrokyne, in the region of Mariupol, where Pavllopil was attacked with small arms and rocket launchers. Sniper fire was reported elsewhere around Mariupol. In the northern front, the Ukrainian stronghold of Stanytsia Luhanska received small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire, while 82 mm mortar volleys landed in Troitske.[42]

6 November[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 47 occasions on Ukrainian troops the previous day, including on 24 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 11 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, and on 12 occasions in Luhansk region.[43][44] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon no combat related casualties in the Donbass region on 5 November.[45] A 63-year-old male civilian was wounded by shelling in Marinka.[46][47] Pro-Russian authorities in Donetsk city said that Ukrainian forces opened fire on their positions on 602 occasions employing small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Most incidents took place at Zaitseve, Zheleznaya Balka, Shyroka Balka, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Staromykhailivka, Olenivka, Yasne, Kominternove, Sakhanka, Leninske and Petrovsky district.[48] In the territory of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, the Ukrainian army broke the ceasefire nine times, according to local officials. Armoured fighting vehicles from Troitske engaged pro-Russian positions at Vesela Hora, supported by 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles. Kalinove was shelled from Novozvanivka and Troitske by 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, 120 mm mortars and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Kalynivka came under 82 mm mortar fire from Luhanske, while Dovhe was hit by rocket propelled grenades fired from Zhovte. Pro-Russian troops at Lohvynove were harassed with small arms fire from Mironovskiy.[49]

Novotroitske came under small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire. The rebels shelled Talakivka and Hnuntove with 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortar landed in Vodiane. Around Donetsk city, separatist forces fired heavy machine guns and rocket launchers at Ukrainian troops in Avdiivka, while 82 mm mortars landed in Marinka and pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Ukrainian redoubts at Krasnohorivka. In the area of Horlivka, 82 mm mortar volleys landed in zaitseve, and armoured fighting vehicles shelled Ukrainian redoubts at Luhanske, which was also struck by rocket propelled grenades and mortar rounds. Novooleksandrivka, in the northern section of the demarcation line, became the target of heavy machine guns and grenade launchers.[50][51] A man was wounded by shrapnel in Krasnohorivka.[52]

7 November[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 52 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day, including on 32 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 8 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 12 occasions in Luhansk region. In Mariupol, specially in the area of Shyrokyne, the rebels used 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Around Donetsk city and Horlivka, Pro-Russian tanks and armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian forces at Avdiivka and Luhanske.[53][54][55] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, Andriy Lysenko, reported at noon that five Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 6 November.[56] Deputy minister of defence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Eduard Basurin, reported that Ukrainian troops opened fire on 247 occasions on their positions on the last 24 hours. According to the statement, the Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery to engage pro-Russian forces at Zaitseve, Zheleznaya Balka, Shyroka Balka, Yasinuvata, Zhabicheve, Hryhorivka, Staromyhailivka, Dokuchaievsk, Yasne, Olenivka, Sakhanka, Leninske and Petrovsky district. In the self-styled Luhanske People's Republic, local authorities recorded eight Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. Knyaz Igor memorial was fired at from Stanytsia Luhanska with small arms, rocket launchers, and 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, while 152 mm artillery barrages fired from Troitske landed in Kalinove. Kalynivka became the target of small arms and 82 mm mortars firing from Svetlodarsk and Luhanske. Rocket propelled grenades fired from Zhovte landed in Lobacheve. Two pro-Russian servicemen were wounded in action.[57]

Novomyhailivka came under small arms, heavy machine gun, rocket propelled grenade and mortar fire. Hostile snipers harassed Ukrainian troops at Hnutove, which also became the target of 122 mm mortars. Small arms fire was reported at Novotroitske. Around Donetsk city the separatists fired heavy machine guns and rocket launchers at Avdiivka and small arms fire at Marinka. Armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Krasnohorivka, which was also hit by 120 mm mortar rounds. In the area of Horlivka, the rebels fired small arms at Zaitseve, while 82 mm mortar volleys landed in Luhanske. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, heavy machine gun fire was reported in the Ukrainian stronghold of Stanytsia Luhanska. Novooleksandrivka and Krymske were hit by rocket propelled grenades. Ukrainian positions at Novooleksandrivka were also struck by antitank guided missiles.[58]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 50 occasions on Ukrainian troops the previous day, including on 31 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 10 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, and on 9 occasions in Luhansk region.[59][60][61] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that four Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 7 November.[62] Pro-Russian authorities in Donetsk city said that Ukrainian forces opened fire on their positions on 1,702 occasions employing small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Most incidents took place at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Zheleznaya Balka, Yasinuvata, Zhabicheve, Vesele, Dokuchaievsk, Olenivka, Oktyabr, Kominternove, Sakhanka, Leninske and Petrovsky district.[63] Sources from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic claimed that Ukrainian forces from Luhanske fired 120 mm mortar volleys on pro-Russian positions at Kalynivka.[64]

In the region of Mariupol, rebel forces fired small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers at Shyroyne and Vodiane. Shyrokyne, along with Stepove and Berezove, also became the target of 120 mm mortars. Lebedynske was hit by 82 mm mortar volleys. In the outskirts of Donetsk city, the Ukrainian strongholds of Avdiivka and Marinka came under small arms and rocket propelled grenade fire, while 120 mm mortar barrages landed in Krasnohorivka. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles, supported by 82 mm and 120 mm mortar fire, attacked Ukrainian troops at Luhanske, north of Horlivka. In the northern section of the demarcation line, Ukrainian redoubts at Balka Kosharna were engaged by armoured fighting vehicles, while 82 mm mortar volleys landed in Krymske and rocket propelled grenades in Stanytsia Luhanska, Zhovte and Novooleksandrivka, where Ukrainian troops were also harassed with small arms fire.[65][66]

9 November[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 54 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day, including on 32 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 6 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 16 occasions in Luhansk region.[67][68][69] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, Andriy Lysenko, reported at noon that three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 8 November. A civilian was killed by shelling in Novhorodske, west of Horlivka.[70] Pro-Russian sources said that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 660 occasions on their positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Most incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Zheleznaya Balka, Shyroka Balka, Spartak, Yasinuvata, Staromykhailivka, Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Olenivka, Tavricheske, Bela Kamyanka, Sakhanka, Leninske, Kominternove and Trudovske. One pro-Russian soldier was wounded in action.[71] In the territory of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, the Ukrainian army broke the ceasefire eight times, according to local officials. Ukrainian armoured fighting vehicles from Luhanske and Zhovte shelled pro-Russian positions at Kalynivka and Lobacheve, which also became the target of small arms and 120 mm mortars. Ukrainian troops from Novozvanivka and Novooleksandrivka attacked the village of Kalinove-Borshchevate with small arms, rocket launchers, automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars, while 120 mm mortar barrages landed in Kalinove.[72]

According to the information published by the ATO HQ on their Facebook page in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 29 occasions. In the region of Mariupol, the rebels employed small arms, grenade launchers, mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to engage Ukrainian forces at Pavlopil, Hnutove, Bohdanivka, Novotroitske, Starohnativka, Shyrokyne, Lebedynske, and Vodiane. Sniper activity was also reported at Pavlopil, Bohdanivka and Shyrokyne. In the surroundings of Donetsk city and Horlivka, Avdiivka and Luhanske became the target of small arms, rocket launchers and mortars. In the northern section of the demarcation line, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles, supported by small arms, rocket launchers and antiaircraft artillery, attacked Ukrainian troops deployed at Novozvanivka, Novotoshkivske, Novooleksandrivka and Krymske.[73][74]

10 November[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 44 occasions on Ukrainian troops the previous day, including on 25 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 5 occasions in the outskirts of Donetsk city, and on 14 occasions in Luhansk region.[75][76][77] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and four others were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 9 November.[78] Two servicemen were injured whilst carrying out duties at the demarcation line, Motuzyanyk added.[78] Pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city said that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 891 occasions on their positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Most incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Ozeryanivka, Zheleznaya Balka, Vesele, Nyzhneteple, Zhabicheve, Staromyhailivka, Dokuchaievsk, Kominternove, Leninske, Oktyabr, Sakhanka, and Petrovsky district.[79] Sources from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic claimed that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on six occasions. Ukrainian forces opened fire with 152 mm howitzers on Kalinove from the Kalinove-Popasna railway and Novoivanivka. The pro-Russian stronghold was also shelled from Troitske by 120 mm mortars. Kalinove-Borshchevate was the target of automatic grenade launchers, rocket launchers and 120 mm mortars.[80]

Vodiane became the target of 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Pro-Russian armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian forces at Marinka, west of Donetsk city. The stronghold also came under sniper and rocket propelled grenade fire. Rebel troops fired small arms and rocket launchers at Pavlopil. In the area of Horlivka, mortar volleys landed around Ukrainian positions at Luhanske, and rocket propelled grenades at Zaitseve. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, Ukrainian redoubts at Novozvanivka were fired at from grenade launchers.[81]

Most incidents tok place in the region of Mariupol, where rebel forces fired small arms and rocket launchers at Ukrainian troops in Pavlopil, Starohnativka and Novotroitske, while mortar volleys landed in Vodiane. Pro-Russian armoured vehicles engaged Ukrainian redoubts around Novomyhailivka. Around Donetsk city, the stronghold of Krasnohorivka came under mortar fire. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, rocket propelled grenades landed were fired at Stanytsia Luhanska.[89][90]

The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and two others wounded in action in the Donbass region on 11 November.[95] A 55-year-old male civilian was killed by shelling in Novgorodske.[96] Deputy minister of defence of the self-styled Donetsk People's Republic, Eduard Basurin, reported that Ukrainian troops opened fire on 960 occasions on their positions on the last 24 hours. According to Basurin's statement, the Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery to engage pro-Russian forces at Zaitseve, Lebyazhye, Ozeryanivka, Yasinuvata, Vasiilivka, Spartak, Zhabicheve, Hryhorivka, Staromyhailivka, Belaya Kamyanka, Novolaspa, Olenivka, Oleksandrivka, Kominternove, Sakhanka, Leninske and Petrovsky district.[97] Officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded 16 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire within the republic boundaries. Most incidents took place in the village of Kalinove, which came under small arms, 120 mm mortar and 152 self-propelled artillery fire from Popasna and Novozvanivka. Ukrainian forces from Troitske shelled Vesela Hora with 120 mm mortars, while Stakhanove was hit by 120 mm mortar and 152 mm artillery barrages fired from Novozvanivka. Ukrainian troops at Luhanske pounded pro-Russian positions with 82 mm mortars and Nyzhne Lozove was attacked twice by 82 mm and 120 mm mortars from Mironovske. Pro-Russian troops around Knyaz Igor memorial were fired at from Stanytsia Luhanska with small arms and automatic grenade launchers.[98]

The main targets were Zaitseve, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Signalne, Zhabicheve, Bela Kamyanka, Dokuchaievsk, Staromyhailivka, Oleksandrivka, Sakhanka, Kominternove, Leninske, Sosnovske, Petrovske, Dzerzhinsky and Trudovske. Three pro-Russian soldiers were wounded in action.[106] According to officials from the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic recorded four Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire within the republic boundaries. Ukrainian forces from Luhanske shelled Kalynivka with 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles and Nyzhne Lozove with 82 mm mortars. Pro-Russian forces at Pankivka came under small arms fire from Malynove, while 82 mm mortar rounds fired from Krymske landed in Frunze.[107]

Mortar barrages landed in the stronghold of Avdiivka, west of Donetsk city. In the northern section of the demarcation line, the rebels attacked Sokolniki and Novooleksandrivka with small arms and rocket propelled grenade fire, and Ukrainian positions between Kostromarove and Krymske with mortar volleys. In the region of Mariupol, Shyrokyne, Vodiane, Novotroitske, Talakivka and Pavlopil became the target of small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. Sniper activity was also reported at Pavlopil.[108]

Ukrainian armoured fighting vehicles from Stanytsia Luhanska engaged rebel forces manning a checkpoint south of the city. The outpost also became the target of small arms, rocket launchers and automatic grenade launchers. Kalynivka came under 82 mm mortar fire from Ukrainian positions in Luhanske.[116]

All the casualties occurred in the region of Avdiivka.[120][121][122][123] A farm complex was destroyed by heavy shelling in Bakhmutivka, in the outskirts of Donetsk city.[124] Separatist authorities in Donetsk city reported 866 Ukrainian attacks on their positions. Ukrainian forces employed small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. The Ukrainian army targeted pro-Russian positions at Lebyazhye, Zaitseve, Vasiliivka, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Staromykhailivka, Oleksandrivka, Belaya Kamyanka, Sakhanka, Leninske and Petrovsky district.[125] According to officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, the Ukrainian military broke the ceasefire on seven occasions inside the republic's borders. Kalynivka was shelled by 73 mm recoilless antitank rifles and 82 mm mortars firing from Luhanske and Mironovskiy, while 82 mm and 120 mm mortar volleys fired from Slavyanoserbsk and Krymske landed in Sokolniki. Ukrainian troops at Zhovte shelled Lobacheve with 120 mm mortars.[126]

The rebels fired mortars on Ukrainian redoubts at Berdyanske, and Vodiane, and small arms and rocket launchers at Novotroitske. Moratr volleys landed in Pisky and Krasnohorivka, west of Donetsk city. n the same area, Ukrainian troops at Avdiivka were harassed with small arms and rocket propelled grenade fire. In the northern front, mortar fire struck Krymske, while Orekhove was hit by small arms and rocket propelled grenades.[144][145] OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine reported twice as bigger civilian death toll over the past week in comparison with the previous week.[146]

Kalynivka was shelled by 73 mm recoilless antitank rifles and 120 mm mortars firing from Luhanske and Volodarsk, while Kalinove became the target of small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Sokolniki was shelled by automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm recoilless antitank rifles and 82 mm mortars firing from Krymske. Armoured fighting vehicles from Luhanske also attacked Lohvynove, supported by 73 mm recoilless antitank rifles.[153]

One pro-Russian soldier was wounded in action.[163] In the territory of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, the Ukrainian military broke the ceasefire on six occasions, according to local authorities. The village of Kalynivka became the target of 82 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery firing from Luhanske and Mironovskiy. The train station of Novo Kondrashevska was hit by 152 mm artillery volleys, while Lobacheve was shelled by automatic grenade launchers firing from Zhovte. Pro-Russian sources around Knyaz Igor memorial were fired at from Stanytsia Luhanska with small arms and automatic grenade launchers. The same kind of weapons, fired from Novozvanivka, were used to harass rebel forces at Kalinove.[164]

Two pro-Russian soldiers were killed in action.[174] Three Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire were recorded by local officials in the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic, Kalinove was attacked by Ukrainian troops from Troitske and Novozvanivka with small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Kalynivka was hit by 82 mm mortars firing from Luhanske.[175]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 15 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day,[179][180][181] including on 4 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 5 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 5 occasions in Luhansk region. The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 20 November. A clash between the warring parties took place in the Luhansk Oblast.[182] The casualties occurred at Luhanske and Avdiivka.[183] At least 27 wounded Ukrainian servicemen were hospitalised in a military hospital of Kharkiv in three days.[184] Pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city said that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 500 occasions on their positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. The main incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Yasinuvata, Oleksandrivka, Sosnovske, Leninske, Sakhanka, and Trudovske. Most incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Vasiilivka, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Staromykhailivka, Leninske, Sakhanka and Petrovsky district.[193] Luhansk People's Republic authorities claimed that Ukrainian forces in their territory broke the ceasefire twice.[194]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 19 occasions. In the region of Mariupol, rebel forces attacked Shyrokyne with small arms, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and antitank guided missiles. Taramchuk, Vodiane and Talakivka became the target of small arms and mortars, while sniper fire was reported at Pavlopil and Novotroitske. Around Donetsk city, the separatists fired small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers at the Ukrainian stronghold of Avdiivka. "Grad-P" single artillery rockets landed in nearby Krasnohorivka, which was also struck by small arms and mortar fire. Rocket propelled grenades landed in Marinka. In the northern front, pro-Russian forces engaged Novooleksandrivka and Novozvanivka with small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers.[195]

23 November[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 25 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day,[196][197][198] including on 16 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 4 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 4 occasions in Luhansk region. The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and three others were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 22 November.[199][200][201] A clash between the warring parties took place in Vodiane, in the region of Mariupol.[200] Pro-Russian officials in Donetsk city said that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 503 occasions on their positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Most incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Vasiilivka, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Staromykhailivka, Leninske, Kominternove, Sakhanka and Petrovsky district.[202] According to local authorities, Ukrainian forces from Novozvanivka shelled Kalinove, in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, with 82 mm mortars.[203]

According to the information published by the ATO HQ on their Facebook page in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 22 occasions. In the region of Mariupol, Shyrokyne and Talakivka came under rocket propelled grenade and mortar fire. Sniper fire harassed Ukrainian troops at Novotroitske and Pavlopil. Rebel troops shelled Krasnohorivka with rocket launchers and mortars, while hostile snipers were reported at Marinka. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles, supported by small arms and rocket launchers, engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Avdiivka, Luhanske, in the Horlivka area, and Novooleksandrivka and Troitske, in the northern section of the demarcation line.[204]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 48 occasions on Ukrainian troops the previous day,[205][206][207] including on 27 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 7 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 14 occasions in Luhansk region.[208] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action in the Donbass region on 23 November. The casualty occurred during shelling of Marinka.[208][209] Pro-Russian sources in Donetsk city reported that Ukrainian forces opened fire on 1,161 occasions on their positions using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. The Ukrainian military attacked pro-Russian forces at Zaitseve, Kruta Balka, Vasiliivka, Vesele, Yasinuvata, Staromykhailivka, Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Leninske, Sakhanka and Trudovske.[210] Officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said that Ukrainian troops broke the ceasefire on seven occasions within the republic boundaries. Five of the incidents took place at Kalinove, which was hit by automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles and 122 mm self-propelled artillery firing from Novozvanivka. Ukrainian forces at Popasna shelled Zolote with automatic grenade launchers, while 120 mm mortar barrages landed in Mariivka.[211]

In the surroundings of Donetsk city, sniper fire was reported in Opytne, while nearby Marinka became the target of 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, rebel forces shelled Novozvanivka and Novooleksandrivka with rocket launchers and mortars. In the region of Mariupol, 82 mm and 120 mm mortar volleys landed in Vodiane, Hnutove and Shyrokyne.[212]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 28 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day,[213][214][215] including on 16 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 2 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 10 occasions in Luhansk region.[216] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action in the Donbass region on 24 November. The fatality was caused by a sniper bullet in Opytne.[216][217][218] Eduard Basurin, deputy minister of defence of the self-styled Donetsk People's Republic, reported that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 950 occasions on pro-Russian positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery.[219] The main targets were Yasinuvata, Spartak, Staromyhailivka, Oleksandrivka, Sakhanka, Leninske, Kominternove, Dokuchaievsk and Trudovske.[220] One pro-Russian soldier was killed in action.[221] The same sources also reported 6,049 Ukrainian violations of the truce over the past week, 2,264 of them using mortars, tanks and artillery. Four civilian residents were killed and another wounded in the same lapse.[222] According to officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, the Ukrainian army broke the ceasefire two times inside the republic's territory. Ukrainian troops from Stanytsia Luhanska shelled pro-Russian positions around Knyaz Igor memorial with automatic grenade launchers.[223]

According to the information published by the ATO HQ on their Facebook page in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 23 occasions. In the region of Mariupol, Shyrokyne was targeted by 152 mm artillery. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles, supported by small arms, rocket launchers and mortars, engaged Ukrainian forces at Talakivka, Pavlopil, Novotroitske, Shyrokyne, Lebedynske, Hnutove and Vodiane. Around Donetsk city, Avdiivka came under 122 mm artillery fire, while north of Horlivka, rebel forces fired small arms, rocket launchers and mortars at Luhanske. Ukrainian troops at Novooleksandrivka and Krymske were harassed with small arms and rocket propelled grenade fire.[224]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 37 occasions on Ukrainian troops the previous day,[225][226][227][228] including on 23 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 5 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 8 occasions in Luhansk region. The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that five Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 25 November.[229] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city said that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 1,629 occasions on their positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. The main incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Vasiliivka, Yasinuvata, Shyroka Balka, Zhabicheve, Spartak, Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Belaya Kamyanka, Kominternove, Sosnovske, Leninske, Sakhanka and Trudovske.[230] Officials from the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic reported that Kalinove came under 120 mm mortar fire.[231]

Sniper fire was reported at Novotroitske. In the surroundings of Donetsk city, Avdiivka and Opytne came under heavy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire. Marinka was struck by small arms, rocket propelled grenades, and mortar and artillery volleys. In the northern section of the demarcation line, pro-Russian troops attacked Novozvanivka, Novooleksandrivka and Orekhove with small arms, rocket launchers, antitank guided missiles and mortars.[232][233]

27 November[edit]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 37 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day,[234][235][236] including on 26 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 4 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 6 occasions in Luhansk region.[237] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that two Ukrainian serviceman were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 26 November. One serviceman was injured by explosion of a landmine.[237][238] A clash between the warring parties took place in the region of Mariupol in the evening.[239][240] One civilian was injured by explosion of a grenade in Marinka.[237] Pro-Russian officials in Donetsk city said that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 1,619 occasions on their positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Most incidents occurred at Lebyazhye, Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Yasinuvata, Zhabicheve, Spartak, Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Kominternove, Sosnowski, Leninske, Sakhanka, Bezimenne and Trudovske. One pro-Russian soldier was killed and another wounded in action.[241] According to authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, Ukrainian forces from Svetlodarsk poured small arms fire on pro-Russian troops at Lozove.[242]

According to the information published by the ATO HQ on their Facebook page in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions in the region of Mariupol on 27 occasions.[243] Overall 34 attacks on Ukrainian positions were registered by 6:00 pm. Around Mariupol, rebel forces used small arms, grenade launchers, mortars and 122 mm artillery to engage Ukrainian positions at Talakivka, Novotroitske, Shyrokyne, Stepne, Hnutove and Pavlopil. Hostile snipers harassed Ukrainian troops at Novotroitske. In the surroundings of Donetsk city and Horlivka, Avdiivka, Marinka and Luhanske came under small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire. In the northern section of the demarcation line, the separatists shelled Novozvanivka, Novooleksandrivka and Zhovte with rocket launchers and mortars.[244]

28 November[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 37 occasions on Ukrainian troops the previous day,[245][246][247] including on 18 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 5 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 14 occasions in Luhansk region. At least six Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 27 November.[248] Six wounded Ukrainian servicemen were hospitalised on Saturday-Sunday (26–27 November) in a clinical hospital of Dnipro.[249] During his daily briefing to the press, deputy minister of defence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Eduard Basurin, reported that Ukrainian troops opened fire on 2,079 occasions on their positions on the last 24 hours. According to the statement, the Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery to engage pro-Russian forces at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Ozeryanivka, Shyroka Balka, Yasinuvata, Yakovlivka, Spartak, Zhabicheve, Kamyanka, Oleksandrivka, Signale, Dokuchaievsk, Kominternove, Leninske, Sakhanka and Petrovsky district.[250] Basurin also said that a group of 15 Ukrainian troops stormed a rebel outpost at Kominternove. The assault was repelled by the defenders, who killed three Ukrainian soldiers and wounded another two.[251] In the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic, local officials claimed that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on six occasions. Zhovte was the target of small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars firing from Stari Aidar. Ukrainian troops from Krymske attacked pro-Russian positions at Zholobok and Donetskiy with small arms, automatic grenade launchers and 73 mm antitank recoilless rifles, while small arms and automatic grenade launchers firing from Stanytsia Luhanska struck pro-Russian troops at Knyaz Igor memorial. Kalinove came under small arms fire from Novozvanivka.[252] The same sources reported that an attempt to break through the demarcation line by Ukrainian scouts at Zholobok to attack the village of Donetskiy was beaten off by pro-Russian forces. One separatist soldier was wounded in action.[253]

In the northern sector of the demarcation line, Ukrainian forces at Krymske and Novooleksandrivka were engaged by rocket launchers, antiaircraft guns, 82 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Around Donetsk city and Horlivka, rebel forces pounded Luhanske, Avdiivka and Marinka with small arms, rocket launchers and mortars. Marinka was also fired at by armoured fighting vehicles and snipers.[254][255]

The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 38 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day,[256][257][258] including on 22 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 5 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 11 occasions in Luhansk region.[259] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that five Ukrainian serviceman were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 28 November.[259][260] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city said that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 1,882 occasions on their positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. The Ukrainian military pounded rebel positions at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Ozeryanivka, Kruta Balka, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Staromykhailivka, Oleksandrivka, Olenivka, Dokuchaievsk, Kominternove, Leninske, Sakhanka, Nova Tavrya, Sergiivka, Bezimenne and Petrovsky district.[261] One pro-Russian soldier was killed in action.[262] In the territory of the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic, local officials recorded two Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. Pro-Russian positions at Lozove came under 120 mm mortar fire from Svetlodarsk, while small arms fire from Novozvanivka was reported at Kalinove.[263]

In the region of Mariupol, Shyrokyne came under mortar fire, while armoured fighting vehicles shelled Novohryhorivka, Talakivka and Vodiane. Rocket propelled grenade and sniper fire was reported at Novotroitske. In the northern front, the rebels fired mortar volleys at Krymske, Balka Kosharna and Novozvanivka.[264][265]

Normandy format meeting of foreign ministers – Germany (Frank-Walter Steinmeier), France (Jean-Marc Ayrault), Ukraine (Pavlo Klimkin) and Russia (Sergei Lavrov) — was held in Belorussian capital Minsk.[266][267]

30 November[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 31 occasions on Ukrainian troops the previous day,[268][269][270] including on 21 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 4 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 6 occasions in Luhansk region.[271] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, Andriy Lysenko, reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and two others were wounded in action in the Donbass region on 29 November.[271] Pro-Russian officials in Donetsk city said that the Ukrainian military opened fire on 1,260 occasions on their positions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. The incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Ozeryanivka, Vasiliivka, Kruta Blaka, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Novolaspa, Kominternove, Dzerzhinsky, Sakhanka, Bezimenne and Petrovsky district.[272] According to authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, Ukrainian forces fired on Pro-Russian positions twice. The violations took place at Knyaz Igor memorial, which was fired at from Stanytsia Luhanska with small arms, rocket launchers and automatic grenade launchers.[273]

The press-centre of the ATO HQ reported in the evening that as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 17 occasions, most of them in the region of Mariupol. Pro-Russian tanks engaged Ukrainian forces at Shyrokyne,which also became the target of snipers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Mortar volleys landed in Slavne. Novohryhorivka, Talakivka, Pavlopil and Hnutove were attacked by armoured fighting vehicles supported by small arms and rocket launchers. The same kind of weapons were used against the Ukrainian strongholds of Marinka and Krasnohorivka, west of Donetsk city. Rocket propelled grenades landed in Stanytsia Luhanska, in the northern section of the demarcation line.[274] One Right Sector fighter was killed in the morning.[275]
